Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer Review
Christmas is one week away!! I can’t even believe it and I’m so excited! If you’re gonna be up at late hours of the night shopping or wrapping presents, or if you’re just a night owl like myself then you may be in need of something amazing to cover up some dark under-eye circles. I have just the thing for you! For years I have used and adored Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser for Dark Circles ($7.99 for .2 oz). I’ve tried it in the Neutralizer and the Brightener shade before, but my favorite is the shade Fair. I’ve repurchased this so many times, I can’t even begin to tell you!
Before we get into the details of why this product is so great, I want to share with you a little trick that I like to do in the mornings when I’ve had a long night or just feeling extra sleepy. I know this isn’t a very new technique, but I figured I’d share it for those who might not have heard it yet. I put two spoons in the fridge for a little bit, usually while I’m making a cup of coffee, then take them out after a couple minutes and hold them right underneath my eyes until they’re not cold anymore. This helps to decrease puffiness and makes you look (and feel) more refreshed. You could keep them in the fridge longer, some say overnight but then it’s a bit too shocking so I found that just a couple minutes works best for me.
Now back to the concealer, the Neutralizer and Brightener shades that I tried before were fine. They weren’t any different than the rest of the shades in this line as far as quality is concerned, but the Neutralizer shade had a yellow undertone and I would have to use a separate product to brighten. And with the purpley-blue of my dark circles, the pink undertones in the Brightener shade left a gray cast rather than completely concealing the issue. I found that the Fair shade (or whatever shade matches your skintone) is like a mixture of the two, as well as a regular concealer so it’s more of an all-in-one product.
This concealer doesn’t feel heavy under the eyes at all and doesn’t settle into fine lines as long as you set it with a powder immediately after application. It blends smoothly and can be easily built up for as much coverage as you may need. With just one layer, I’d say it gives about medium coverage. The applicator that’s attached may make it look more confusing than it actually is. I just twist the product up through the sponge, but be careful because if you’re impatient and keep twisting too much you’ll waste product. After the first use, it’s doesn’t take as many twists to get the product out. I use the sponge to apply it where I want it and then blend it out with a separate buffing brush, like the Morphe G1 that I mentioned in a recent review.
You could also use this product on other areas of the face and it would work just fine. I highly recommend giving this concealer a try. If you do, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Hope everyone has an excellent weekend!
