Elf Mad for Matte Palette Review

I have had my eye on this Elf Mad for Matte palette since they released it around summer time in 2015. I finally picked it up during a huge haul that I posted when Elf was having one of their 50% off sitewite sales. The fact that it’s an all matte neutral eyeshadow palette from a drugstore brand just made me so happy. But I was also a little hesitant because most companies don’t formulate matte shadows as well as they do shimmers. The retail price of it is $10 and it comes with ten eyeshadows. As I’m writing this, it’s currently sold out on their website, but you can also find it on Amazon and in some other stores such as Target and Walmart.

The colors of the eyeshadows on the box are a little misleading, but the actually palette is gorgeous. It comes with a good variety of both warm and cool neutrals as well as a few different options for light, medium, and dark shades. Elf offers free shipping on orders over $35, which I think is pretty reasonable. And if you sign up for their email newsletter, you’ll get updates on sales, bundles, and new releases. I was impressed with the amount of time it took for them to process my order and for it to arrive at my door. It was on time and much faster than I would’ve expected for being placed during such a big sale.

I’ve never paid much attention to Elf eyeshadows before because I had never really heard the best things about them, but this one seems to be an exception. Generally speaking, I’ve heard all positive reviews--including my own. These are so smooth and soft, something I don’t think I was expecting to be so impressed by. The pigmentation is amazing and you don’t have to build them up to get an intense color. The first two shades are very light and barely show up in the picture, but actually are really useful in helping to blend things out. I like that the eighth and last shades are dark enough to use as eyeliner. This is almost an all-in-one palette for me, but I do reach for a brighter color to put on the inner half of my lid to complete the look that I want.
I think this is a great palette. It has almost everything you could need for a natural look and is small enough that it’s very travel-friendly. The shadows are easy to apply and easy to blend. They have about average wear time. When applied with a primer, they last around 5-6 hours before any fading begins. The mirror is a very good size considering how small the palette is. It also doesn’t come with any applicators. I actually prefer that because I take those out anyway and without them, it allows for bigger eyeshadow pans. I definitely recommend giving this palette a try, I don’t think it will disappoint.

I hope you found this useful if you were considering purchasing this product. I’d love to hear any and all questions or comments. Hope you have a fantastic day! :)
