Nars Lip Pencils Review

Lip crayons have become so popular within the last couple of years and almost every company has their own version now. I think the overall thoughts of them have been pretty positive. Much more positive than general opinions of lipsticks or lipglosses. But I mean, it’s a crayon that you use to color your lips with, what’s not to love about that?! There’s just something fun about it! The quality in all of the lip crayons that I’ve tried have been really good and I can’t really say that I have a favorite. It’s a much more lightweight product to put on the lips compared to other options. Today I’m sharing my thoughts with you on the Nars Pencils I got from Sephora on my birthday as a free gift.

I actually received these pencils as my birthday gift from Sephora for the last two years. These were the free birthday gift from 2015 and 2016’s is supposed to be a Marc Jacob’s eyeliner and lipstick combo. But since my birthday is in the first week of the year and I got the same gift as last time, I’m assuming they either didn’t update their stores yet or were just trying to get rid of last year’s stock. These are miniature versions and the two colors that it came with are Cruella (matte red) and Rikugien (satin light pink).

The consistency of both are very nice and I love the colors. I probably get more use out of Rikugien just because I’m not the biggest fan of matte lips, but Cruella is a beautiful true red shade. These aren’t very heavy feeling on the lips, as with most lip crayons. I’m not sure why the packaging made me think it was a twist up, but it’s not. You have to sharpen it as you would an eyeliner which can be inconvenient if it’s something you’ll like to keep in your purse.

In the picture below, I’m wearing Rikugien so you can see what it looks like in action. I love how soft and natural it comes off. It’s a beautiful pink shade that adds just enough to the lips without going overboard. I would almost say it falls into the “my lips but better” shade category, but it does have just the slightest amount of shimmer and can almost look a little frosty in certain lighting.

Cruella is a very intense red, but so gorgeous! Again, the texture of this one is very smooth when you swatch it and during application. It’s perfect for a classic red lip and can easily be paired with a lip balm underneath for a slight sheen or a lipgloss on top for some shine. The only thing I noticed with this is that you really have to pay attention when applying it and throughout the day. It does settle into lip creases and is pretty noticeable since it’s such a bright color. It can dry out the lips if worn for a couple days in a row, but with just a few days here and there I didn’t have any trouble.

Overall, I really do like these lip pencils and enjoy using them very much. If you’re not part of Sephora’s Beauty Insider program, I’d definitely recommend signing up to receive these gifts on your birthday. There’s no purchase required and no hidden tricks to it, which is good because I very rarely ever buy anything from there. However, as far as if I would recommend purchasing the full size of them I’m not completely sold. They are $26 each and while they are good, I can’t see throwing down that much money for a single lip pencil that I can easily find a dupe for at the drugstore. Covergirl and Neutrogena make some amazing ones for a fraction of the price.

I loved the bright color I had on last week and decided to continue with the brights this week too. Looking through my collection, Sinful Colors Rise and Shine caught my attention and I realized that I hadn’t worn it in a good while. I love this polish and the color definitely brightens my day everytime I look at it. It does need a full two coats and of course we know that I love the quality of Sinful Colors!

What’s on your nails this week?
