DIY Garden Hose Stand

To go along with my recent landscaping that I did, I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest trying to get new ideas for what I can add in for other decoration. Through all my searches, I got inspired to make a DIY garden hose stand. I know they sell ones that are already made to house garden hoses in a more appealing way, but what’s more fun than making something yourself?! Feeling creative and inspired, I marched (actually, I drove) myself on down to Home Depot and picked up everything I needed to get started. Now that it’s completed, I’m ready to show you exactly what I did to keep the garden hose together and out of the way.

At Home Depot, I picked up a 2 ½” x 2 ½” x 8’ landscape timber (aka a fence post), a fence post cap, and a wall-mounted hose rack. I had my boyfriend cut the wood in a little less than half for me and sand it down. You can make it however tall as you would like, but mine was going in a garden bed outside a window so I didn’t want to make it too tall.

Then we added the fence post cap on top, which also helped make it look a little taller. That piece was already pretty smooth as it was, so it didn’t need any sanding. They had plenty of these to choose from, even a few metal ones. But I chose to go with a small round nub to keep it simple and classic.

I went through the cans of paint we have stored away and picked a medium purple shade. I painted two coats of it and then added on the metal hose rack. This is indoor paint, so I’m not sure if that’s going to affect anything the longer it sits outside. I’m hoping it’ll be fine since it’s not in a completely sunny area of the yard.

I really like the way it looks with the darker bricks and the red roses that are next to it. It’s not in the way as far as the window and it has been working great to keep the hose together. I didn’t really like the other options that you wind up yourself because they can be a little difficult and break too easily, so this is nice and simple to take the hose on and off. Which, of course, is going to lead to us using it more often.

It’s been so much fun personalizing our home and creating little crafts like this that make things easier for us. After completing our landscaping in the Spring, I have really been outside more just because I enjoy having a maintained yard and I like the responsibility of having to water my beautiful flowers. Trying to figure out what to do with the hose used to annoy me before, but this addition has made things so much easier and was very budget-friendly to make!

If you like doing DIY projects, let me know what some of your favorites are in the comments. I’d also love to hear how you’ve been spending time outside this summer too! Hope you have a beautiful day!
