Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Tutorial

Makeup Geek, Makeup Geek, Makeup Geek, you’re probably sick of hearing me talk about them at this point. And if you are, I’m sorry -- kinda. I just can’t help it! This company has impressed me so incredibly much with their products that if they had a store, I’d probably be in there every single day just touching their products and waiting for new items to launch because that’s basically what I do with their website all the time. Stalker status to the max, y’all! But I figured since I always rave about them so much, why not make a tutorial including some of my favorites?! So, here we are!

I kept this one a little simple and only used three of their single shadows, but if you’d like to see more of my collection or somehow missed my separate review I posted, you can find all those details here.

The first step I always do when I start to do my eye makeup is prime my lids with Milani’s Eyeshadow Primer because it’s the best one I’ve found so far to really keep the eyeshadow in place the longest with my oily skin. Then I use Wet n Wild’s single in Brulee to act as a base and help the other shadows blend out more easily once we start applying them.

Using Makeup Geek’s Barcelona Beach with a Morphe MB23 blending brush, I carelessly apply that on my outer corner and into the crease. Usually I would just use this as a transition shade, but today I want the color to show up a little bit more to bring out the browns in High Tea that we’ll be using next.

After I built up the depth that I wanted with Barcelona Beach, I’m taking High Tea on a more dense Sephora Professional blending brush and placing that basically in the same area that I put Barcelona Beach. I want this to show up enough, but also don’t want it to completely cover up the brown tones of Barcelona Beach in the crease. I love the way these two shadows look together!

Applying all these shades with blending brushes helps make the eyeshadow application process go quite a bit faster, but I still like to go through with a Sonia Kashuk blending brush one more time just to make sure everything is blended and even. If you want to add a little more depth, you can use this brush to apply a bit more of Barcelona Beach. And if you went a little heavy handed, you can take some of the Wet n Wild Brulee shadow to act as an eraser and tone it down.

Moving onto the lower lash line, I’m taking those same two shades (Barcelona Beach & High Tea) and blending those underneath my bottom lashes just a bit with a BH Cosmetics #105 brush. I don’t like to go too dramatic on this part, just placing enough on that area to keep the look from appearing too top heavy on the upper lid.

Once the darker shadows are completed on the outer corner, I take Makeup Geek’s Shimma Shimma on the inner half of my lid. I like to apply it with my finger first to get a faster, more pigmented application. Then I go through with a small fluffy eyeshadow brush (BH Cosmetics #103) to clean up any mess and make sure it’s blended into the crease with the other shades. This is definitely a must have eyeshadow!!

And, of course, what eyelook of mine would be complete without adding in Ulta’s Naked eyeshadow on the inner corner?! I can’t live without this shade and as you can see, I am hitting pan for the second time! Unfortunately, I don’t own Makeup Geek’s White Lies (yet!) but if you do, that would be a great alternative for this step.

For eyeliner, it really depends on how I’m feel as to what color I want to pair with this look. A dark green, brown, and black, all look beautiful. But today, I went with a brown-ish black feel. I used the Pacifica Natural Minerals Pencil Eyeliner in the shade Fringe and placed that as close as I could to the lashline on both the top and bottom. I got this in an ipsy bag a long time ago and have been very impressed with the quality of it. It applies extremely smooth, I definitely recommend checking it out!

Anything you do with cream, liquid, gel, or pencil, you have to set with a powder even around the eyes. So I reached for my Elf Mad for Matte palette and mixed the darkest brown with the black to make the eyeliner more intense and last longer. I only applied the liner halfway along both my upper and lower lash line to keep the intensity on the outer corner to make the eyes appear bigger.

Moving onto mascara, I did my typical daily routine. If you’re new to my blog, you can find the specific steps for all that I do here. If you’re a returning reader, then you probably already know it all and I won’t bore you with the repetitive details.

I’ve mentioned all three of these Makeup Geek shadows in multiple Monthly Favorites posts and have really been loving using them ever since my order arrived. For a quick recap on how last week's polish held up, I was pretty impressed with it. Going into the week, I wasn’t too sure how the formula was going to be since the application wasn’t my favorite. However, I’m happy to say that I got to the five day mark before any chipping began, which is better than I was expecting and even a little better than some other polishes.

For this week, as much as I wanted to continue with the brights and pastels, I just couldn’t pull myself to it. It’s been rainy and cloudy for the past seven days straight and honestly, it doesn’t have me feeling very bright at the moment. So I pulled out a color that’s a little darker and I think is absolutely beautiful. I’m wearing Sally Hansen’s Jungle Gem. It is one of their Complete Salon Manicure polishes, and while you can definitely get away with just one coat of this polish, I still recommend using both a base and top coat with it.
