Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

I know I’ve talked many times before about how I’m not a complete foundation fanatic and usually just skip it to use concealer instead. But when a new foundation gets released that everyone raves about, what else am I supposed to do other than try it out for myself? Perks of becoming a beauty blogger is that I always have an excuse to buy new makeup! This Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation has quite the reputation, so I’ve been putting it to the test for the past few months to see exactly how it performs.

I actually found this foundation on sale at Walgreens for $5 and was so excited, I could barely stand it! It usually retails for about $9-11, depending on where you purchase it. I bought mine in the shade Ivory, which is the third to lightest shade. It does match me pretty well, but it seems a little dark for being the third lightest shade out of 12 colors. Although 12 colors is a nice shade range for a drugstore foundation line.

It comes with 1 oz. of product, which is pretty typical of foundation and claims to be a soft-matte hydrating foundation. It’s not very often you see matte and hydrating in the same product, which is something that has caught most everyone’s attention. The back of the packaging says this is their first gel-whipped foundation and it does need to be shaken first. I’ve noticed it begin to separate when it first comes out of the tube if it’s been sitting at least overnight. The packaging is very nice and thin, so it’d be great for travelling.

I’d say this has about medium coverage. While it does leave some natural marks shown a little bit, like freckles, it covers redness and discoloration pretty well. I do still use concealer on top of it on any major problem areas or pimples, just to be safe. I also think it does need to be set with a powder, even though I do that step regardless because of my super oily skin. It feels really light to wear on the face and doesn’t look cakey at all.

I have been amazed at how long it lasts on my skin and is the foundation I’ve been reaching for the most lately when I know I’ll have my makeup on for more hours than usual. It doesn’t settle into pores, break up, or wear off throughout the day. It has become my next favorite foundation at the moment, right after L’oreal’s Pro-Matte Infallible foundation which still takes the win because it has more coverage.

If you’ve tried this foundation before, I’d love to hear what you thought of it! Also, leave me a comment letting me know what foundation you’ve been loving lately! Have a fabulous weekend! :)
