Meet Matt(e) Trimony Palette Tutorial

In case you missed my last post on Friday, I was talking all about this Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette from The Balm Cosmetics. It has twelve different eyeshadows in it that are all completely matte and while there is a nice mixture of warm and cool toned shades, I’m excited that it has so many different (yet wearable) colors to play with. So to go along with that post, I wanted to share a tutorial with you in order to really show how these shadows work. I did bring in a few different staple shades for me, but also tried to stick just to this palette for the most part.

To start off, I already primed my eyelids with my favorite Milani eyeshadow primer and used the Matt Lin shade in this palette as my base shadow. For a little warmth and dimension in the crease, I’m using a mixture of Matt Lopez and Matt Evans with a Morphe MB23 brush. I’m carelessly placing that on the outer part of my crease to help the darker colors blend and transition together better.

To add in a darker brown, I’m using a more dense Sephora Professional blending brush to apply Matt Reed on the outer half of my lid and into the crease. I’m making sure not to go over the lighter transition shades completely so there’s still a visible gradient of color.

Because I couldn’t make up my mind for the color I wanted to go for, I decided to combine both Matt Kumar and Matt Moskowitz. Using an Elf Professionals blending brush, I’m keeping those colors right on the very outer corner of my lid and gently blending the excess shadow into the crease. I’m also going in with a clean blending brush from Sonia Kashuk in between these steps to keep everything effortlessly blended.

For the lower lash line, I’m using a BH Cosmetics #105 pencil brush from their Eye Essentials Brush Set and taking a small amount of Matt Reed, Matt Kumar, and Matt Lopez combined together to gently place under the lower lash line. This will help bring a little bit of all of those colors under the eye as well so it doesn’t appear too top heavy.

For the inner half of the lid, I’m going with one of my favorite eyeshadows ever - L’oreal’s Infallible single eyeshadow in the shade Iced Latte. It’s such a beautiful, intense shimmery gold that looks gorgeous with almost anything and lasts all day. I like to apply it with my finger first and then clean it up with a BH Cosmetics Small Shader brush.

If you’ve read any of my tutorials before, then you know I wouldn’t feel right completing the look without using Ulta’s Naked single eyeshadow. I’m placing that in it’s usual spot, right on the inner corner of the eye to brighten everything up even more.

For eyeliner, I decided to go with Ulta’s pencil gel eyeliner in the shade Black Out. I don’t think I’ve talked much about these eyeliners before, but I do really like them and use them in my routine pretty often. I only applied the pencil halfway along both the upper and lower lashes to keep the intensity on the outer half of the eye. This will make the eyes appear bigger and more open.

As always, we need to set the pencil liner in place and give it a softer look. So I’m using Matt Ahmed with an angled eyeliner brush from Ecotools. I put the black shadow exactly over the top of the pencil liner, but also brought it in the entire way on my upper lash line as close as I could. I don’t want to over do it in order to keep the inner corner as bright as possible.

Finishing with a little mascara (actually, a lot of mascara) and then we’ll be done. To refresh your memory on my mascara routine or in case you missed it previously, you can find all the details, tips, and tricks here as far as how I get my real lashes to look as thick and as long as possible.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with this palette recently and actually had a hard time choosing what to do for this tutorial. You could focus mainly on a neutral look just incorporating the browns and black, or go for more color and play up the red or purple. These are very easy to work with and I definitely recommend looking into this palette if you are a complete matte eyeshadow lover like myself.

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them for me below. I’d also love to know what you think about the quality on these palettes or which one is your favorite from the Meet Matt(e) collection.

This week I’m wearing a Butter London nail polish in the shade Yummy Mummy. This is a little sneak peek to one of the products that I received in this month’s Boxycharm, which will be posted on Wednesday. I’ve never tried a Butter London polish before, but I know I should have high expectations so we’ll see how it lasts throughout the week. It is a softer shade, so it definitely needs two coats. But I do think it’s a really beautiful shade and the name is pretty funny!

What’s on your nails this week?
