How To Make Eyeshadow Brighter
Eyeshadow is definitely one of my favorite parts of makeup, next to mascara. I love how many options there are as far as application and that there is a lot more variety to choose from than any other product. When I apply eyeshadow, my main goal is to enhance my eye shape while trying to make my eyes appear bigger and more open. Keeping dark shadows on the outer corner and bright shades on the inner half is typically how to do that. I do have my favorites, but I’m always looking for ways to make my eyeshadow brighter and more noticeable.
We’re in 2017 and at this point, trying to apply eyeshadow without a primer is basically one of the biggest sins ever. Without it, eyeshadow will barely show up and will definitely fade away within a few hours. Primer is amazing, but sometimes primer alone doesn’t make my eyeshadows as bright as I would like them to be. On days like those, I make sure to apply a white base such as the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. Depending on how long I will have my makeup on, I will either apply the white base directly to my lid or layer it on top of my primer.
You can tell I get a lot of use out of both of these products. They aren’t looking very pretty anymore. In a previous review, I talked about how I wasn’t the biggest fan of the NYX jumbo pencils. That’s still true, but Milk is really the only one I would recommend and it’s definitely a product that I can’t be without. Aside from using it as a base on my eyelid, I also use it everyday as a base to highlight underneath my brow bone.
In the picture below, you can see what my eyeshadow looks like without the white base and just with my primer alone. The shadows that I used on my lid were Makeup Geek’s Barcelona Beach and Shimma Shimma. These are two of my all time favorite eyeshadows. The quality and pigmentation on them is amazing, and although I think they do look perfectly fine with just the primer, I do want it to be a little brighter every now and then.
The next picture is what the exact same eyeshadows look like with the white base underneath. It doesn’t make as big of a difference on the darker shades such as the brown that I used, but the brighter shimmer shadow definitely looks more noticeable. If you’re working with an eyeshadow that isn’t the best quality or one that you would like to look more pigmented, this is a great solution for that.
This isn’t something that I do every single day or even on a weekly basis, but it is a great trick to have up your sleeve for those days when you want brighter eyeshadow. It also works great for keeping the eyeshadow on longer. You could use the same method for darker eyeshadows too, but obviously with a darker colored pencil.
