$30 Outfit Challenge

I am so not a fashion blogger, which I’m sure you’ve probably figured out by now if you’ve seen any of my clothes. I can spend all the time in the world playing with makeup, but when it comes to finishing the hair and putting together an outfit I have almost zero patience. Not to mention that I just completely refuse to wear anything that’s not super comfortable. Usually that leaves me with the basics, which I absolutely love because it’s so classic. When I first saw this $30 outfit challenge going around, I thought it would be a piece of cake. But after visiting three stores, I realized what I was really in for.

Because I thought this challenge was going to be easy, I decided to challenge myself even more. I restricted more notoriously affordable stores, such as Forever 21, and didn’t allow for any dresses or rompers. In my mind, those things were cheating the game. I’ve seen some people take this challenge to Walmart and I did try that because I think we often overlook their clothes section, or at least I do. But I really wasn’t impressed with the quality of the items there and knew whatever I bought I would probably never wear again. I tried Target, but that was a total fail after not allowing dresses or rompers, especially because they weren't having any sales or coupons.

After all that, I ended up at Kohl’s. I don’t know why, but I always think of Kohl’s as being more expensive than other stores. Thankfully, they did have some nice sales and they always have coupons available. I was able to get a top and pants...and I’ll let you decide whether I passed the challenge or not.
Both of these items are from their SO brand. The top was originally priced at $20, but was on sale for $9.99 and I used a coupon which brought it to only $7.99! It’s very lightweight and I’m actually pretty surprised I ended up leaving with this one (in a size small) because that strappy front is not something I’d typically pick out. It is a slightly high-low type of design at the bottom, but that didn’t matter to me because I knew I’d be tucking it in with these pants.

The bottoms were originally priced at $38, but were on sale for $24.99 and the coupon brought it down to $19.99! They do have a linen feel to them, but they’re softer than some other linen pants that I own. I went a size up in these and got a medium because I was worried they might shrink. They are a little long since I went up in size, so I paired them with some old sandal wedges that I had. They do have pockets in the front and back, which is always a bonus, and thankfully they’re not as high-waisted as I was expecting them to be.
I didn’t end up getting any accessories because I thought the top added enough style and also because there was no room left in the budget. The total of these two items came to $27.98, but after 7.5% tax, my total was $30.08. So I technically came in budget if you consider the total before tax, but I was really hoping to come in at budget after tax. I cut myself some slack on the eight cents because I could probably find that in the seats of my car or sofa, but like I said I’ll let you be the judge. ;)

This is a perfect Spring outfit and since we’re entering into a new season, that’s the perfect excuse to shop for some new clothes. So I challenge all of you to test yourselves and see what you can come up with for just $30!

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve worn red nail polish and it’s very rare that I ever chose a more orange toned red, so when that mood does strike I’m pretty quick to jump on it because those colors don’t get used very much in my collection. The shade I’m wearing this week is Redgy by Sally Hansen. I’m not the biggest fan of how long this formula lasts, but I do really enjoy its more curved brush during application.
What’s on your nails this week?
