Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Bread

It’s not very often that you see chocolate chip banana nut bread. It’s always either chocolate chip, chocolate chip banana, or banana nut. They’re never all combined together, which is my favorite. So I figured I love baking and I make a pretty good bread, I can just do it myself. Making a bread loaf isn’t actually as intimidating as it seems, let me show you!

The ingredients you’ll need are:

~1 ½ cup flour
~1 cup sugar
~1 tsp baking soda
~½ tsp salt
~¼ cup vegetable oil
~3 bananas, mashed
~1 cup chocolate chips
~½ cup chopped nuts
You can use just one large bowl for this recipe, starting with the dry ingredients first. Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. When working with flour, I like to use the biggest bowl I have to minimize any mess on the counters from flour dusting out. And speaking of mess, I also keep a damp and dry paper towel handy to clean as I go.
Once the dry ingredients are combined, mix in the oil, bananas, and eggs. My bananas weren’t as overly ripe as they normally would be when making bread, but it turned out just fine. Then you can stir in the chocolate chips and nuts gently, making sure to not overmix. Overmixing will leave you with dense, hard bread. I used chopped pecans because that’s what I had on hand, but walnuts are also a great option.
Add the batter to a greased loaf pan and set it in a 350° oven for about 60-80 minutes. In anything that you bake, always start with less time than what’s recommended and add minutes as needed. Once it’s done, let it sit in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a plate.
Chocolate chip banana nut bread is one of my favorites because bananas make it soft and it can be enjoyed as breakfast or dessert. Perfect excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast! I always heat mine in the microwave for a few seconds for each serving and add some butter for that delicious, warm, right out of the oven type of treat.
