Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Palette Review

Before I signed up for Boxycharm, I had been thinking about it for quite a while. At that time, I was still subscribed to Ipsy and couldn’t make up my mind whether I wanted to switch or not. When I saw that the entire Coastal Scents Revealed 3 palette was gonna be in their August box, that sealed the deal for me and I subscribed right away.  This palette regularly retails on the Coastal Scents website for $20. Boxycharm was $21 and you get four other full-size products as well, so how could I not??

I had wanted to try one of the Revealed palettes for such a long time, but had never actually gotten around to ordering one. Each one of them are supposed to be influenced by and comparable to the coordinating Naked palettes from Urban Decay ($54). You get 12 shadows in each Naked palette and 20 shadows in the Revealed palettes. You do have to order Coastal Scents products online, whereas Urban Decay can be found in Ulta, Sephora, and certain department stores. Unfortunately, I don’t own any of the Naked palettes so I don’t have those to compare when considering quality and swatches.
One immediate thing to note is that this palette doesn’t have a mirror or come with any applicators or brushes. That wasn’t a negative for me, but may be important to some people. The quality on most of the shadows isn’t the best (more on that in a moment), and the actual pan size is pretty skinny which can be difficult to get a brush into without making a mess. The shadows are also somewhat close together and it can be a challenge not to accidentally pick up another color on the brush. There are no shade names in this palette, but that is pretty typical unless it’s from a high-end brand. Even though it’s in cardboard-type packaging, I was impressed with the quality of it. It stays shut and feels sturdy, something that usually seems an issue with a plastic package on many affordable products.
This is a swatch of the top row, where they kept most of their neutrals along with some cranberry shades. There’s a mixture of mattes, satins, shimmers, and glitters throughout this palette. The first two shades are very light mattes and you almost can’t even see them, which is fine for me because I can use them as blending shades. The third shade is also matte and very smooth. I was amazed with the pigmentation and texture of the fifth and tenth shades, they were just so buttery! However, the rest of the shadows in this row were just okay. A lot of them were really powdery, difficult to apply, and had quite a bit of fallout.
The second row is where they placed most of the purples and the darker colors. You can see the pigmentation varies in this row as well. There were more out of these that had a smoother texture, but also more that just felt like chunky colored glitter (specifically the third and tenth shade). The seventh shade looks matte in the palette but has a beautiful satin finish and is probably one of my favorites out of them all.

Overall, I’m gonna have to say to skip this palette. I really like the concept, the price, the colors, and the packaging. I just wish the texture and pigmentation would have been better. The lasting power isn’t very long on these since they’re pretty powdery and chalky. Those two things also make them a little harder to blend out. As of now, there are better things on the market such as the L'oreal La Palette Nude 2 that I reviewed last month which has the same price point, a similar shade range, and much better quality.

This week, I went for a dark Christmas red with a gold glitter accent nail. I used Nicole by OPI in Deeply in Love and On A Gilt Trip (shown in picture). The quality of these are pretty good, you’ll definitely need two coats of each because they both have a more thinner consistency. That can actually be a plus because then the polish won’t be too thick on the nails and will last longer. This is my favorite gold nail polish and you can’t feel any of the glitter after a top coat is applied.
I’d love to hear if you have tried any of the Coastal Scents Revealed palettes and what your thoughts were on it! What’s on your nails this week? Have a fantastic day! :)
