Ulta & Sephora Birthday Gifts 2020

The rewards program at Ulta and Sephora have never been very good when considering what they actually offer, but it’s still worth having an account just to get the free birthday gifts every year. My birthday is at the very beginning of the year and I always look forward to stopping in to pick up each gift set because it’s like a nice little treat after the holidays are over. I was pretty impressed with last year’s gift sets and was hoping for options that were just as good this year too!
To get Ulta’s gift, you have to sign up with your email and they’ll send you a barcode which they’ll scan in store to give you the gift. They also change their gift sets every month. For January, I received a travel size of EstĂ©e Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair. It doesn’t seem too exciting since this is an item that is often given as a gift with purchase, but I’ve never tried it before so I’m interested to see if it’s really as amazing as it claims to be.

This travel size only includes .24 fl oz and it can be purchased on its own at Ulta for $17. The full size, which includes 1.7 fl oz, is a whopping $103!! This claims to add instant radiance and hydration to the skin, while also significantly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with its exclusive ChronoluxCB Technology, antioxidants, and Hyaluronic Acid.
Compared to Ulta, Sephora’s reward program makes it much easier to receive your gift. You don’t need an email with a barcode in it, you simply just walk in the store and tell them the phone number or email that is associated with the account. They also offer the choice between a skincare or a makeup gift set. I always choose the makeup!

The makeup set for this year is from Milk Makeup. I’ve never tried any of their products before, so I found this to be really fun and exciting. The set includes a mini Lip + Cheek in the shade Werk, a deluxe sample size of their KUSH mascara, and a sample packette of their Hydro Grip Primer.
Cream cheek products seem to be pretty popular lately. I’ve tried a few in the past, but never found one that I really liked. This Werk color looks gorgeous so I’m really hoping to like the formula.

The mascara claims to be high-volume with nourishing hemp-derived cannabis seed oil, thickening heart-shaped fibers, and pure pigments for a clump-free intense black finish that will stay all day. I expect a lot from mascara and this formula sounds very interesting, unlike anything I’ve tried before.
The primer is also formulated with hemp-derived cannabis seed oil, as well as Blue Agave Extract, Prickly Pear Cactus Extract, Aloe Water, Cherry Blossom, Hyaluronic Acid, and B Vitamins to hydrate, soothe, smoothe, and calm the skin while forming an invisible layer to grip makeup all day. After applied, it should be left to absorb into the skin for one minute before adding foundation on top.
As it usually goes, I did prefer Sephora’s gift set this year more than Ulta. While I don’t shop there very often, Sephora makes it much easier to pick up the birthday gift and I appreciate that they offer options. I also like that they don’t change the sets every month, making sure everyone gets to try the same thing.
