Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

I know I’ve talked many times before about how I’m not a complete foundation fanatic and usually just skip it to use concealer instead. But when a new foundation gets released that everyone raves about, what else am I supposed to do other than try it out for myself? Perks of becoming a beauty blogger is that I always have an excuse to buy new makeup! This Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation has quite the reputation, so I’ve been putting it to the test for the past few months to see exactly how it performs.

I actually found this foundation on sale at Walgreens for $5 and was so excited, I could barely stand it! It usually retails for about $9-11, depending on where you purchase it. I bought mine in the shade Ivory, which is the third to lightest shade. It does match me pretty well, but it seems a little dark for being the third lightest shade out of 12 colors. Although 12 colors is a nice shade range for a drugstore foundation line.

It comes with 1 oz. of product, which is pretty typical of foundation and claims to be a soft-matte hydrating foundation. It’s not very often you see matte and hydrating in the same product, which is something that has caught most everyone’s attention. The back of the packaging says this is their first gel-whipped foundation and it does need to be shaken first. I’ve noticed it begin to separate when it first comes out of the tube if it’s been sitting at least overnight. The packaging is very nice and thin, so it’d be great for travelling.

I’d say this has about medium coverage. While it does leave some natural marks shown a little bit, like freckles, it covers redness and discoloration pretty well. I do still use concealer on top of it on any major problem areas or pimples, just to be safe. I also think it does need to be set with a powder, even though I do that step regardless because of my super oily skin. It feels really light to wear on the face and doesn’t look cakey at all.

I have been amazed at how long it lasts on my skin and is the foundation I’ve been reaching for the most lately when I know I’ll have my makeup on for more hours than usual. It doesn’t settle into pores, break up, or wear off throughout the day. It has become my next favorite foundation at the moment, right after L’oreal’s Pro-Matte Infallible foundation which still takes the win because it has more coverage.

If you’ve tried this foundation before, I’d love to hear what you thought of it! Also, leave me a comment letting me know what foundation you’ve been loving lately! Have a fabulous weekend! :)

    1. Hi Jessica!! Thanks so much for visiting my blog! :) I feel like I've heard tons of great things about that foundation. I've never tried anything from Tarte except for an eyeliner and bronzer that I got sent in ipsy. Usually it kills me to spend so much on high end makeup, but I might have to take the plunge! I'm always looking for the best products with my oily skin. Especially in this hot and humid Florida summer!

    2. I don't like spending much money on high end make up either but if you're going to I say definitely give Tarte a try. The foundation is amazing and their liquid lipsticks are so ridiculously mousse-y and dry down super matte but don't get weird and chalky and they don't dry out my lips! I also love their shadows, I sound like a spokesman for them lmao. But really Tarte is one of the best high end brands in my opinion!

    4. I've always been attracted to and interested in their Amazonian Clay products. They definitely bring something to the table that I don't think any other company does, which I really appreciate!

  3. I've been trying all kinds of new drugstore foundations lately! I'm really loving Cover Girl's Ready Set Gorgeous, but I'm definitely intrigued by this one! Your reviews are always so honest + helpful, I'm going to try + snag this next time I'm in the drugstore...hopefully I'll nab it for a deal like you! XOXO

    1. I've heard so many good things about Covergirl's Ready Set Gorgeous foundation, but never got around to trying it. I wanted to use it in the powder foundation form for my $20 Makeup Challenge, but it wouldn't fit in the budget :( And thank you! I work so hard to try and incorporate as many details as I can and give my honest opinion. That's what's killing me in the beauty community lately (mainly on Youtube) is the fake reviews just for views, money, products, etc. I want to be known for my honesty. And I definitely think you can! Drugstore products always go on sale or have some type of promotion going on. I very rarely ever buy anything anymore unless it's on sale.
