July Boxycharm Unboxing

Boxycharm is here and I couldn’t be more excited!! I’ve seen a few previews on social media and it kills me because even though it got me super anxious to get it in the mail, I really love being surprised. You can find all the information to sign up for Boxycharm here. But as a quick run down in case you haven’t heard of them before, they are a $21 monthly beauty subscription service that sends out 4-5 full size products in each box. They’re absolutely my favorite as far as beauty subscriptions are concerned. Let’s start by reviewing last month’s products first before diving into what I got for July.

~Starlooks Lip Pencil (Charmed)~ This product wasn’t necessarily a part of the June box, but since the one I received in May came to me empty they sent a replacement for me to try last month. And I think it is awesome! It’s such a beautiful color to line the lips with or to use on its own as a single lip product. It’s very smooth and creamy, and matches with so many different shades.

~Farmacy Brightening Mask~ If you like sheet masks, you might like this. But I don’t, so it wasn’t very enjoyable for me. I really tried to focus on how the product itself performed on my skin, but sheet masks are so difficult for me to work with that all I could think about when I could take it off. It’s nothing against this particular product, just its form.

~Ofra Oil Control Powder~ This seems like a really nice concept and yes, I do think it helped absorb my oil when I used it during my day. But I also noticed a bit of a white cast that it left behind that didn’t set into my skin very well. I would just rather use my Elf Mattifying Blotting Papers because they’re more affordable, easier to carry with me, and its powder matches my skin better.

~Cougar Beauty’s Mineral Face and Body Shimmer (Diamond Kiss)~ I didn’t end up using this product within the past month. This one worried me a little bit from when I first saw it just because I typically wouldn’t use a product like this, so I didn’t look into trying to figure out a way to make it work. But as you know, I post updates when I do try things. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough and give it a shot.

~Girlactik Precise Eyeliner Marker~ Again, this is another product that I didn’t use. I have one or two eyeliner pens open at the moment and didn’t want to have too many in my rotation to prevent them from drying out. So for now, this one is staying in my backup drawer until I finish the others.

~LVX nail polish (Serene)~ If you follow my Mani Mondays, then you probably already know that this one hasn’t been featured yet. The day I got my Boxycharm, I already had on a color very similar to this so I’ve been playing with other shades right now before making my way back around to this one.

Last month’s box was nice, just like they always are. But it definitely wasn’t one of my favorite that I’ve received. Glancing over this month’s reference card, I was disappointed to see that there were only four products included. But just wait until you see what was inside - it is sooo worth it!!

First up is a lipgloss from Noyah in the shade Malbec ($16). I’ve received a Noyah lip product in an ipsy bag before that I ended up passing along to my sister because of the shade, but I do remember it being very smooth. Same goes for this lipgloss, it swatched very nicely. Except this is a color that I will actually wear. And just look at that packaging! It’s made out of bamboo and is absolutely precious!

Next is an Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner from Mally Beauty in the shade Ice Blue ($18). That name is definitely a perfect description of what this color looks like. Usually I would just stare at this and wonder how in the world I would use it, but lately I’ve been feeling inspired to try a pop of color along the lash line during these summer months. So I’m definitely excited to play with this and see how it holds up during days by the pool.

Argan oil has also had quite a bit of my attention lately. I got my hair trimmed a few weeks ago and wasn’t really happy with it. So I’ve been loading on the argan oil, biotin, and doing everything I can do grow it back out again. This month, Boxycharm included a PYT Argan Oil from Morocco. It’s full size at 1 fl oz and retails for $30. That’s pretty pricey and a lot more than I would usually spend on a hair care product, so I’m expecting some serious results out of this.

And finally, I’ve saved the best for last! An Ofra Professional Magnetic Palette equipped with 6 single eyeshadows inside!!! Ohhh, my goodness. I’m a happy girl! I’ve posted a tutorial about making your own affordable DIY magnetic palette. I do use that daily and still don’t recommend spending so much on a magnetic palette like this or the traditional Z-Palette, but it is super exciting to receive one in a beauty subscription box. Not to mention the 6 eyeshadows it came with!

It didn’t list the shade names on the reference card or on the actual eyeshadow pans, which is a disappointment. Swatching them, they seem a little inconsistent with the texture and quality. So I’m interested to keep using them to see how they really perform. The eyeshadows usually retail for $10 each and I couldn’t find a price the actual empty palette itself, but the reference card says this Boxycharm exclusive combo is a $59 value.

I told you it was super exciting!! This month’s box is probably my favorite, next to my May box where I received an unreleased Makeup Geek blush. I think it is such a good idea to include a magnetic palette like this and have neutral eyeshadows that everyone can work with. The total value for this month’s box was $123...that I only paid $21 for. If that doesn’t encourage you to subscribe, I don’t know what will!

~Mani Monday~
Because I went with such a bold color last week, I was wanting something a little more subtle this week. I’m wearing Wet n Wild’s Megalast nail polish in Private Viewing. It’s a nice nude shade with some beige undertones rather than the typical pink undertones. I do think this is a good polish, but you will need two coats of it for sure. I haven’t worn it in quite a while, so I can’t really remember the wear time on it. But at such an affordable price, there’s not much room for complaints. I would definitely recommend looking into it if you haven’t tried out a polish from this line yet.
