Beauty Product Fails #10
This Beauty Product Fails series has been a thing on my blog for a while now and it wasn’t until recently that I realized I’ve mainly been focusing on makeup. I have a whole list of skincare and hair care products that were also fails. I’m including two of those in this post, along with three other makeup products that just weren’t any good for one reason or another.
Let’s start with hair. I’ve been sitting on this one for so long, I almost completely forgot about it until I found the pictures. This is the Garnier Fructis Curl Treat Butter. This is supposed to be a hydrating leave-in styler to help shape curls. It has a thick, putty-like consistency and is recommended for normal to coarse hair.
I applied this onto damp hair, as directed, and I immediately regretted it. I hoped it would get better as my hair dried, but unfortunately it didn’t. Even though the scent was pleasant, it left my hair feeling and looking extremely greasy. I wash my hair every night and this made it look like I hadn’t cleaned my hair in a month! I had to wash my hands after every time I touched my hair when I was testing this product. It was so embarrassing! I also tried the Curl Treat Smoothie, which is for fine to normal hair and it was just as horrible.
The skincare product I’m including is the Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks. I had really high hopes for these because I’ve had a lot of good luck with Wander Beauty products in the past. Unfortunately, these left my under eye area noticeably red and hot feeling. I’m not sure if it’s the actual product or if it’s just something my skin didn’t like, but I haven’t used them again after that first experience. It’s such a shame because I loved seeing the gold foil when I walked past a mirror compared to other eye masks.
Nip+Fab is another brand I’ve had a lot of positive experience with. I use their facial pads daily and they make really good moisturizers. This Viper Venom Micro Blur Fix, however, was not very good. It’s supposed to be a blurring, mattifying primer. I do think it did a good job at mattifying the skin, but it gave me a lot of trouble when trying to apply foundation over top of it.
I let it dry completely before applying any makeup and I was only able to find one foundation that worked well with it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t expecting those problems and now I have no idea what foundation it was. It’s just too much work and has caused me to remove my face makeup completely multiple times because it literally peels foundation off of the skin.
You’re probably gonna think I’m lying when you see the next swatch picture, but I promise I’m not. I did, in fact, swatch this bareMinerals blush on the back of my hand. The color Elation is almost completely unnoticeable and the reason it has found its way into a fails post. The texture of this is somewhat smooth, but I can’t say anything about the blendability or quality of the formula because I’ve never actually been able to see this on my cheeks, or hand.
The last product I’m including in this post are the Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powders. These aren’t necessarily a fail when considering color or pigmentation because they are very bright and the colors are beautiful. The two shown below are Summer Haze (left) and Illuminati (right).
The reason I’m considering these a fail is because they’re essentially useless, at least to me. They’re too messy to put on my face or eyes, I don’t have a reason to put them anywhere on my body, and I don’t feel like bothering with something like these just for a little highlight over some lipstick. They’re basically just pretty to swatch and that’s about it.
These products aren’t complete fails across the board because I have seen people really love those eye masks and the highlighters. And I’m sure those hair products will work for someone. That’s the beauty of having so many products to choose from, not every thing will work for every person. But if we share some of the same qualities or preferences, I hope I was able to save you some money with this post!
