Becca Cosmetics Hydra-Mist Powder Review

There are so many makeup products on the market now, it seems to be getting more and more difficult for brands to come up with new unique products to make themselves stand out. Becca Cosmetics really caught my attention with this Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder. Not only did the claims and ingredients catch my attention, I just couldn’t understand how something like this was actually going to work.
What makes this product so unique, as mentioned in the name, it is made with 50% water!! It’s described as a refreshing face mist in a powder form. It is supposed to cool and refresh the skin while also providing a naturally poreless, portrait-mode finish that will last all day without caking, creasing, or settling.

This powder is recommended for all skin types and comes in two color tones: Original, which is a sheer creamy beige, and Golden Bronze, which is a soft warm tan. This can be found at both Ulta and Sephora, as well as on the Becca Cosmetics website. It retails for $39 and comes with .35 oz of product. There is also a travel size available at Sephora which includes .17 oz for $19.

The packaging is one of my favorites. It is a plastic container, but it comes with a cap and a mesh sifter on the inside of the product to keep mess to a minimum. Every loose powder should come packaged like this!
I have the original version, which does claim to be translucent. I don’t know if it’s completely translucent because there is a tiny hint of color, but it still looks natural on the skin. It does have a very smooth consistency when you swatch it on your hand, but the cooling effect isn’t really noticeable until it’s applied to the face.

I’ve used this both as a setting powder for my foundation and as a finishing powder, and always love how smooth it leaves my skin. I’ve also applied it with both a brush and a sponge. The sponge feels more natural to use with this product because of the wet feel, but I find myself reaching for a brush more because that’s how I’m used to applying powders. Although it is a very strange sensation applying a wet feeling powder with a brush, it works perfectly fine.
This powder does help control my oil and keep me matte throughout the day. However, you do have to be a little careful during application. I have applied too much before and it did look a little cakey. Whether you’re using a brush or a sponge to apply it, a little bit of this powder goes a very long way.

While this powder does have a few silicone ingredients, it is talc free and I am so appreciative of that! If you don’t mind paying a little bit more for a loose powder, this is one I would recommend. The experience of using this powder is unlike any other and it looks beautiful on the skin!
