September Boxycharm Unboxing

Life is crazy, y’all. Whether you have a lot going on and are super stressed, or you’re bored and looking for excitement, Boxycharm is always the answer! I’ve been subscribed for over four years now and still get just as excited when I see my box is out for delivery as I did my very first month. New makeup is always fun and having it be a surprise makes it that much better! As per our usual routine, let’s quickly review last month’s products before getting into the September goodies.

~Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Strength + Moisture Leave-In Mask~ I’ve been a little disappointed with other Briogeo products I’ve used in the past, but this actually made a noticeable difference. I sprayed it in damp hair every night before bed and it really did leave my hair more smooth and soft.

~Pür Cosmetics Pink Glitter Brightening Peel-Off Mask~ This is a total fail product. The peel-off aspect of this mask was enjoyable, as any other peel-off mask would be. But I don’t think it did anything for my skin, it smelled (and felt) like Elmer’s glue, and I just don’t think glitter belongs in skincare products.

~Wander Beauty Glow Ahead Illuminating Face Oil~ This smelled like flowers, which was enjoyable, but I don’t really understand the purpose of this product. Rather than giving my skin a natural radiance, I was left with glitter specks all over and it didn’t seem to make a difference when used as a makeup primer.

~Becca Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder~ It’s been a long time since I’ve been as interested and entertained by a makeup product as I was with this powder. The moment I first touched this to my face, my jaw dropped. It literally feels like a wet powder! As far as the quality and the finish it leaves on the skin, you can read all those details in my full review that was posted last week.

~Tarte Big Ego Mascara~ I didn’t end up trying this product yet. I have a few other good mascaras that I want to finish up first before adding any more into the rotation. But when I do, you better believe I’ll update you with a full review of how this mascara performs.

Last month’s box was fun because it included a lot of different types of products that I wouldn’t have otherwise tried on my own. Although I did enjoy the hair mask and face powder, I still felt a little disappointed with everything else. The theme for this month is Boxycharm All Access and I’m hoping to be more impressed with these makeup products than last month’s skincare.
Funny enough, the first product in this month’s box is more skincare. Don’t get me wrong, I love skincare and think it’s super important, it’s just that the skincare products we’ve been receiving in the boxes aren’t what I need to use to fix my personal skin concerns. I’d rather see them include a nail polish like they used to do a while ago. That’s something I’d get more use out of.

The skincare product included this month is the Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask. This is full size with 1.7 oz and it retails for $52. It claims to deeply hydrate and moisturize the skin while also reducing redness and signs of irritation with its Biotic Balancing Complex, peptides, and restorative blend of ceramides, fatty acids, and tamarindo extract.
Next is a set of five Moda eye brushes, worth $27.95. The set includes the BMX-430 Crease brush, the BMX-466 Shade brush, BMX-420 Detail brush, BMX-402 Smudger brush, and the BMX-498 Line brush. These are part of the Moda Pro line, which is under the Royal & Langnickel brand. They’re known for having high-quality, affordable brushes. I’ve been impressed with all of their brushes that I’ve tried. They’re super soft and never have any problems shedding.
The sleek design is one of my favorite things about these brushes. I love the simplicity of the black and white, and the white tips are great for helping remind you to keep them clean! These particular brushes have a studded rubber grip design on the handles, which is a nice little touch.
Who remembers the Laura Geller Baked Highlighter craze a few years ago? Everyoneee was obsessed with Gilded Honey and while that was a shade that was included in some boxes this month, I got the shade called Peach Glow ($26). This is really pretty, but the swatch isn’t as intense as I was expecting. I’m still not that big on highlight because of my oily skin, so I’m interested to see how this can double as eyeshadow!
Speaking of eyeshadow and popular products, I finally get to try a Violet Voss palette! This is their Essentials palette, which includes ten eyeshadows and retails for $29. I was actually surprised at the price of this palette. Maybe I’m getting it confused with something else, but I thought Violet Voss was more pricey than that. I’m not complaining, though. That’s great news!!
The color selection is definitely not what I expected when I read “Essentials” but aside from the green, there are a lot of neutral-ish shades. I’m happy to see an equal amount of both matte and shimmer finishes. The swatches seem pretty promising and I’m excited to see how the cool and warm tones will match together.
The last product in this month’s box is a MAC Frosted Lipstick ($18.50). On the bottom, it says “CB 96” which seems to be the shade name according to the MAC website. This color is described as a bright pinky-orange with pearl. I’ve actually never tried a MAC lipstick before and although I’m excited to try their formula, I’m not so excited about the frosted pearl finish. I think cream finishes are much more flattering, but maybe I can make this work with a gloss or use it as an accent in the center of the lips.
Lots of great products included in this month’s box. I think I’m most excited about experimenting with this new eyeshadow formula that I’ve never tried before. The total value of all five products is $153.45!! That’s insane considering you only pay $21 with free shipping. I don’t think I’ll ever understand how Boxycharm makes it happen, but I’m so glad they do!

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them for me in the comments. Did you get this month’s Boxycharm? What products are you most excited about?
