It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara Review

It Cosmetics has always been one of the high-end brands that I’ve had a lot of interest in. They seem to have good quality products that aren’t super inflated in price like some other brands. I appreciate that they provide nice, sleek packaging that isn’t too flashy or excessive. When I research their products, I find nothing but high-quality ingredients. I mean, the list goes on! I’ll always be a drugstore girl at heart, but I’ll never turn down the opportunity to try a high-end product. Especially a mascara, those are my favorite!

When a product really catches my attention, I will suck it up and spend the extra money to try it out. Thankfully, Boxycharm saves me and includes pricey, high-end products all the time. I obviously do pay for the box, but for $21 I also get four other products rather than just one. Most all high-end mascaras run around $20, give or take a few dollars. This It Cosmetics Superhero mascara is $24.

Let’s talk about ingredients and what this mascara is supposed to do. It has quite the description, so stay focused! They’re essentially claiming that this mascara is going to be the skincare for your lashes. It is infused with a special Elastic Stretch Technology that was developed with plastic surgeons. Each coat is supposed to strengthen, volumize, and extend the length of your natural lashes.

Some of the ingredients include lash-lifting polymers, volumizing collagen, strengthening biotin, proteins, and peptides which are all meant to help condition the lashes. It’s made with a super black pigment and includes a Lash-Changing Power Brush to lift, separate, and curl each individual lash to create the appearance of a fuller lash line. They claimed to have observed a 500% increase in a clinical study with just one coat. 500% is quite a number, we’ll just have to see about that!
Below you can see the step-by-step application process. The first picture on the top left are my natural lashes, then I curled them twice and added two coats of mascara. They claim for this to be a super-buildable formula, which I only halfway agree with. One of the first things I noticed about this mascara is its thick, gel-like consistency. This formula can be built up, but you really have to be extremely careful during application.
They recommend a wiggle and sweep motion to apply this mascara to the lashes. That’s typically how I apply mascara anyway and was the first technique that I tried. Don’t do that!! With the wiggle and sweep motion, I had total spider lashes. It was so not cute! I also don’t recommend dipping the brush back into the tube for the second coat. The brush already picks up enough product and with it being a thicker formula, it gets clumpy real quick. I always have to have a metal lash comb when applying this mascara, just in case.
There’s no doubt that this mascara makes a huge difference. It does add a ton of length and volume to the lashes. I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying it made a 500% increase, but it is one of the more dramatic mascaras I’ve ever tried. I probably won’t be repurchasing this in the future just because I have to be so incredibly careful during application. Although I really appreciate the healthy ingredients, I would’ve preferred a slightly thinner formula or at least a rubber wand to minimize clumps.

I love wearing deep jewel tones in Fall and this is one that I had picked out a few weeks ago because the name matched our Halloween costumes, but I decided against it. I’ve been thinking about it ever since so it was obvious what I needed to paint my nails this week. This is from Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure line and is called Jungle Gem. I love the brush in these polishes, but I don’t think the formula is anything super special. Unlike this color, I am totally loving it!!
What’s on your nails this week?
