Beauty Product Fails #11

It’s not uncommon to find a few dud products when testing as much makeup as I do, but recently I feel like it’s been more than usual. As a beauty lover, that’s pretty disappointing. And as a beauty blogger, it’s my job to let you know about any product fails to hopefully save you some money in your makeup shopping.

Let’s start with the biggest fail that I have to share: Golden Star Beauty Self Tanning Body Lotion. Everything about this product is a total fail. The lotion doesn’t include a color guard and contrary to their claims, I was left with the most uneven tan I’ve ever seen. I had to wait ten hours for this to develop before I could wash it off and when I did, I wasn’t very pleased with the results.
I posted a full review of this product a few weeks ago and basically, it gave me the most disgusting fake tan I’ve ever experienced. I had patches (like the ones shown in the photos below) all over my body. I looked like I had some kind of disease and it only got worse as the week went on. If you come across this self tanner, or the brand, run away!
I really fell in love with the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, so even though I was worried about their new Glow Powder with my oily skin I kept my hopes high. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up liking the Glow Powder at all. There are specks of glitter that can be detected which looks very unnatural when applied all over the face, yet it’s not enough glow to be used as a subtle cheekbone highlight. This seems like a product that was good in theory, it’s just not realistic.
There have been quite a few products from Neutrogena that have surprised me in the past, but this Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector wasn’t one of them. It’s too thin of a consistency, which makes it difficult to blend and often looks patchy. It also doesn’t cover dark circles very well. This is strictly a brightening product and I need something that can both brighten and conceal, so I wouldn’t repurchase this again or really recommend it.
Pixi has quickly become one of my favorite brands and it’s only just now that I’ve been disappointed by any of their products. This is their Large Lash Mascara. The problem I had with it is that it pretty much did nothing for my lashes other than coat them black. Even when pairing it with their Black Lacquer Lash Primer that I love, I still didn’t notice much of a difference.
The last fail I have to share in this post is another mascara. The It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara is one that I see so many people loving, but it gave me the most difficult time! This made my lashes so clumpy and it only got worse the longer I had it open. You can see in the photo below how much extra product is on the wand. I don’t know if I just got a bad tube or what, but I could never apply this mascara without having to clean up my lashes with a metal lash comb afterwards. That’s too much work for such a high-end mascara.
It’s always disappointing when makeup products don’t work out the way we expect them to, but I hope I was able to help save you some money with this post and know what to stay away from. If you enjoyed, you can check out the rest of my Beauty Product Fails series to see what other products also didn’t make the cut.
