Neutrogena Review

Neutrogena has never been a brand that I’ve purchased much from in the past. I think it’s because I always viewed them as one of the more pricey brands in the drugstore, or maybe it’s because they don’t have the biggest display section so I just walk right past it. But I got almost a full face worth of products around the holidays and have been testing them for months. A few of them have made it into some of my favorites posts, but I wanted to include them all in one separate post for an overall review.

I did have the Healthy Skin Primer, but that didn’t do much for me and then the packaging busted at the seams so I had to throw it away. It’s not one that I would really recommend. So the next base face product that I have is the Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup. The shade I use is Nude and it seems to match me pretty well. I also tried the two shades lighter than this and found that they were all very similar in tone.

It does have SPF 20 in it, which is always a plus although it’s not something I typically look for in a foundation. The top of it screws off and the product just pours out. I actually prefer that there is not a pump because I feel like I have more control. This provides about medium to full coverage, along with a ton of hydration. It definitely needs to be set with a powder.

This is one of the thicker feeling formulas I’ve tried, so it’s not as comfortable to wear on the skin. It definitely makes me feel and look oily throughout the day, but it’s not a mattifying foundation so I can’t hold that against it. This definitely isn’t the foundation for me, but I can see it working well for those with dry skin.
I’ve only tried one other stick concealer in the past and I didn’t like it at all. It even made it into one of my fails posts! So I wasn’t sure what to expect with this Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealer. As soon as I saw the moisturizer in the middle of the product, I was certain this wouldn’t be the concealer for me. Surprisingly, this is actually one of my favorite products!
The formula is so smooth and when layered over a foundation, it practically blends itself in and provides a ton of coverage. It’s not as good when used on its own without a foundation, though, so keep that in mind. I usually switch between the Light and Light/Medium shades depending on how tan I am. This is one that I would definitely recommend for all skin types.
After seeing how much I loved the stick concealer, I especially had really high hopes for the Skin Brightening Eye Perfector. Brightening the under eye area is one of my favorite steps in my makeup routine! I have it in the shade Fair, which is the lightest option and I still feel like it’s slightly darker than what I need.

It has a brush tip applicator and twists up from the bottom. My favorite thing about this is the slight cooling effect it has when first applied to the skin, but other than that I don’t really like it. The formula is very thin and although that feels nice under the eyes, it doesn’t provide much coverage and can be a little patchy to apply. I’ve even tried layering this with other concealers and it’s still not my favorite. The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer is much better.
Now onto the powder face products, the Healthy Skin Bronzer is one that I’ve already talked about a few times. I have it in the shade Sunkissed. This is one that has four different shades in the compact and I just combine them all together on my brush. It is a little lighter than some other bronzers, so I normally only use it when I’m not self tanned and it provides a beautiful natural-looking color to the skin. The tone is perfect and really makes you look like you just spent the day in the sun. My favorite thing about it is that it doesn’t have talc in the ingredients, so I can wear it as often as I want without having to worry about breakouts.
The Healthy Skin Blush is just as good as the bronzer. Again, it’s made without talc and is completely matte. I have it in the shade Vibrant, which is a beautiful bright pinky coral. I’d definitely be interested in looking for more shades of this because it’s so easy to work with and the pigmentation is great. It’s very rare that I can find a high-quality matte blush with healthy ingredients, so this is one I’ll be holding onto for a while and definitely repurchasing in the future.
I did have one of the Neutrogena eyeshadow quads, but as you might have read in my full review it wasn’t one that I was really impressed with and I passed it on to my sister. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I looked at this Healthy Lengths Mascara. The packaging is really slim and the brush didn’t look like anything special, so I thought it wouldn’t provide much at all. I was wrong! I fell in love after the first application.

It’s still not the most volumizing or lengthening mascara in the world, but it provides much more than I was expecting. It’s really easy to work with because of its Vitamin E and Olive Oil ingredients. I normally use this on ‘no-makeup’ makeup days. It doesn’t flake off throughout the day, but washes off easily with soap and water.
I’ve been meaning to try the MoistureSmooth Color Sticks for the longest time because EmilyNoel83 on Youtube has raved about them for years and I trust everything she recommends. I have the shade Fresh Papaya and absolutely love it. The color is stunning and the formula is super comfortable thanks to its fruit extracts and mango and shea butter. It provides the most natural, healthy sheen to the lips while also being very rich in color. It twists up from the bottom, so it’s really easy to use and travel with. I’ll definitely be looking into other shades from this line.
The Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shine is also very good. It’s made with hyaluronic acid to plump the lips and make them appear smoother, juicy, and more supple. It also claims to improve the look, softness, smoothness, and condition of the lips over time. The shade I have is Velvet Wine. Berry shades have always been my favorite! The applicator is a little different, but still pretty easy to use. The formula is very comfortable on the lips and not sticky at all. If you enjoy a good lip gloss, this is definitely one to check out.
I’m so happy with all these products that I got to try. There were a few duds, as there would be in any collection. But for the most part, I was really impressed with the majority of what Neutrogena has to offer. I feel like my eyes are now open to a whole new brand and I’ll definitely make sure to not walk by the display ever again. I had no idea there were so many hidden gems!
