Empties ~ January 2020

It’s been so long since my last empties post, I can’t even remember. My bin was literally overflowing all over the place and now I’m finally getting around to clearing it all out. Most of these products are all new and have never been featured in an empties post, or a full review, before so this will be a first (and last) look at a few skin, hair, and makeup products I’ve used up completely.
I’ve been on a mission to find a new favorite body lotion. I have really oily, acne prone skin so I thought I would try non-comedogenic lotions to see if that would make a difference. I used up what I head left of the Aveeno Positively Radiant body lotion before switching to the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion.

The Aveeno Positively Radiant smelled refreshing, but after rubbing it in I’m pretty sure I saw some kind of shimmer and it took a very long time to absorb. The Cetaphil was fine, but the bottle was small and I didn’t notice any improvements in my skin by using a non-comedogenic formula.

Then I switched to the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing lotion. Again, that one was nice but I still didn’t notice any difference so the hunt continues. Right now I’m using one from St. Ives and really like it.
For years, I’ve heard great things about Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant. I finally decided to pick up a travel size just to test it out. I figured if any natural deodorant was going to work, it’d be this one. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I’m don’t usually sweat very much and this still didn’t do really anything for me. I also wasn’t a very big fan of the scent. I thought it smelled powdery and old, and it lingered all day.
I’ve been making it a point to apply some type of leave-in conditioner every night after I wash my hair in hopes of helping to prevent split ends. I’ve gone through the Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray and the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Strength + Moisture Leave-In Mask. Both had a more natural scent rather than artificial perfume and both seemed to do a nice job. However, neither of them left my hair looking very shiny and the spray nozzle wasn’t the best.

I also finished up my first bottle of the It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin. The spray nozzle was much better than those on the Briogeo bottles and it had a more pleasant scent. It did leave my hair slightly more shiny and soft, but not as much as I was looking for. I was also concerned after learning that keratin causes breakouts. Anytime I had this in my hair, I was extremely cautious to keep it off my face and shoulders.
A good eye cream is the one skincare product that I cannot seem to find. I’ve tried so many, none of which ever made a difference -- including this Skin Actives Triple Correction Eye Cream. It had a very thin consistency, which helped it absorb into the skin quickly. But after using through the entire bottle, my under eye area wasn’t any different than it would’ve been with just a standard moisturizer.
While I didn’t completely use up this L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation, it is mostly empty and has been sitting on my vanity for the longest time now. It’s probably more than expired and needed to be thrown away. This was one of my favorite foundations and if my skin doesn’t need much coverage, it’s still one I’d use. However, the Elf Acne Fighting Foundation has replaced it as my favorite and is the reason I didn’t finish this entire bottle.
I completely used up two concealers, the first being the Maybelline Fit Me concealer which is my absolute favorite. I have it in multiple shades and always have a backup ready to go. I also finished the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector, which I didn’t really like at all. It had a pleasant cooling effect upon application, but it didn’t cover dark circles very well. It also had a very thin formula which made it almost impossible to blend.
Two face powders also made it into the empties bin, which is pretty rare. I had the Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder for what felt like forever. I used it almost every day and it lasted a very long time. I’m not sure I’ll repurchase it, though, because I didn’t really love the finish. It made foundation and concealer look a little too heavy. The main reason I liked it is because of it’s talc free formula.

It was a sad day when I finished up the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Powder Foundation. I absolutely loved that product and now it’s incredibly difficult to find. I loved the coverage this powder gave while still feeling so lightweight on the skin and staying in place all day.
The Opalhouse candles from Target are my favorite. They’re super affordable and I love that they’re soy. Every candle I’ve tried from their brand is very strong and smells incredible. The Pineapple and Bamboo Leaf is probably my favorite because I love fruity scents. Sweet Almond Blossom was warm and relaxing, and Pumpkin Shortbread was perfect for Fall!
My last empties are both essential oils. The NOW brand is what I normally buy and I found them on sale at GNC, so I stocked up! The orange is my favorite, which is what I’m using in my diffuser now, but I also got the “organic” orange oil to compare. Honestly, I don’t think the organic one was any different. The grapefruit was also enjoyable, but was much less strong smelling than the orange.
Using through products is so satisfying because I love throwing away an empty bottle and starting with something fresh. Especially when it’s something like those lotions or Neutrogena concealer that I didn’t like very much. Then I have the opportunity to either try a new product or switch back to one of my favorites.

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them for me in the comments. Have you tried any of these products before? What are some of your best and worst recent empties?
