January Boxycharm Unboxing

This month’s Boxycharm showed up so quickly and was delivered by FedEx right to my front door. It arrived the day after my birthday, which was such a pleasant surprise considering I hadn’t even gotten my tracking email. After last month’s fiasco, I’m happy that everything seems to be moving smoothly this month. And speaking of last month’s box, let’s quickly review those products before getting into all the new goodies.

~Aesthetica Pro-Series Brush Cleanser and Conditioner~ This was my first time ever trying a true brush cleanser and honestly, I didn’t like it very much. It still left color on the bristles, which made me think it wasn’t fully clean. I much prefer my method better.

~Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream~ I’ve really been loving this face cream! It’s pretty lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin, but still provides a ton of moisture. I especially love applying it after a face mask.

~CiatĂ© Marbled Light Illuminating Blush (Dusk)~ This blush was much better than I thought it was going to be. I was really worried about its illuminating claims, but it’s actually not very shimmery at all. It’s such a beautiful color, though it does take a little bit of work to make it noticeable.

~Brow Bar by Reema Brow Makeover Kit (Medium)~ Although the color is a little warm for me, I was super impressed with the formula. I have pretty thinly shaped brows, which don’t provide much for powders to hold on to. I didn’t get any use out of the concealer and the gel had a very wet consistency, but the powders are incredibly pigmented and the angled side of the provided brush was the perfect density.

~Storybook Cosmetics Robin Hood eyeshadow palette~ As discussed in my full review and tutorial featuring this palette, I was both in love and annoyed with the packaging. It’s absolutely precious to look at, but is so bulky with a ton of wasted space. The formula was pretty good, though the color scheme wasn’t my personal favorite.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with last month’s products. And even though the brush cleanser was a waste, it gave me a new appreciation for the way I normally clean my brushes and how well that works. The theme for this month’s box is Break the Ice, which seems so appropriate for the new year!
The first product in this month’s box is the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. This is the mini size that they offer. It comes with 1 fl oz and retails for $22. It’s a very heavy glass bottle and really does smell like watermelon! This claims to smooth and perfect the skin overnight with its soothing, amino-acid rich Watermelon Extract, hydrating Hyaluronic Acid, and pore refining AHAs. I’ve never used a sleeping mask before, so I’m excited to experiment with this pillow-proof formula.
Concealer is something I’ve never received in a Boxycharm before, and I’ve also never received a full size product of a sample included in a previous box. There were a few shades of this Pretty Vulgar Under Cover Concealer ($25) included in a sample pack in my November box. I originally thought this Little White Lies shade was too light for me, but I’m willing to try it again because I did enjoy the formula.
Next is the Wander Beauty Trip for Two Blush and Bronzer Duo, which retails for $36. This formula claims to be made with a hydrating blend of Mango Seed Butter and Sunflower Seed Oil to help soothe and brighten, along with Lotus Flower and Sea Buckthorn Extract which will help reduce the appearance of fine lines. I didn’t see talc listed in the ingredients, which makes me very happy!
While the ingredients seem great, I’m a little confused by the Costa Rei bronzer shade. The Bellini blush looks gorgeous and they both swatch very smoothly. I just don’t know what kind of bronze, if any, this light powder is supposed to provide. They also claim for these to have a matte finish, but there’s some obvious glitter when looking at these in the pans.
The only other Ace Beaute eyeshadow palette that I tried left me very impressed, so I’m super excited to see another one included in the box. This is their Scarlet Dusk palette that comes with 12 eyeshadows and retails for $35. According to the included notecard, the inspiration behind this palette were the beautiful sunrises and sunsets witnessed in various places around the world.
It is a very brightly colored palette, but I love the warm tones. I already have so many ideas of all the different directions this can go in. The names are precious, I appreciate the mirror, and I’m happy there’s only four shimmers compared to the eight matte shades. I can’t wait to start playing!
The last product in this month’s box is by a brand I’ve never heard of before, called Petite ‘N Pretty. This is their Fully Feathered Volumizing Mascara, which retails for $18. This claims to add instant thickness and definition while its quick-dry formula locks in the curl. I love the packaging and I have really high hopes for this hourglass shaped wand.
They did such a good job with this month’s box! Not only is the value absolutely incredible (all five products are worth $134!), it also arrived in a timely manner, and these are such a fun mix of products. I seriously cannot wait to try that eyeshadow palette and mascara!

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them for me in the comments. Did you get this month’s Boxycharm? What products are you most excited about?
