November Boxycharm Unboxing

It was practically a miracle how early my Boxycharm showed up this month. And right at my doorstep, too. It was beautiful! What wasn’t so beautiful was realizing that they had raised their prices. Maybe I missed the memo, but I had no idea this month the price of the box would switch from $21 to $25. Not that $4 is really a big deal, it was just surprising and honestly kind of disappointing especially when considering their recent expansions of higher priced subscription options.

Quick recap and review of last month’s products:

~GO2 Beauty Egg White Sheet Mask~ After doing my research when receiving this product last month, I was really hesitant to use it. I put it to the side and just forgot about it. However, I’m not sure that I’ll ever feel comfortable enough to put this product on my face.

~Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow Spray~ As concerned as I was about putting this shimmery mist on my face, I did try it once just to see. It wasn’t as absolutely awful as I was expecting, but it did leave behind quite a bit of glow which is something my already oily skin doesn’t need anymore of.

~Smashbox Always On Liquid Liner~ This is a very intense black eyeliner, as you might have seen in my recent tutorial. For the most part, I’d say it was pretty easy to use because of its precise applicator. If you like winged eyeliner, this would be a great option.

~Dose of Colors Pretty Cool eyeshadow palette~ I could not be happier with the quality of the eyeshadows in this palette. As shown in my full review, every shade is insanely pigmented. They blend effortlessly and the packaging is very luxurious. My only complaint is the lack of a bright cream color.

~Hank & Henry Slick With It Mascara Duo~ Unfortunately, this is another product I didn’t get around to using this month. I have a few other mascaras that I’m trying to work through before adding any more to the rotation, but I’m still very curious about this formula and double wands. I’ll post updates when I do get around to testing it.

Last month’s products weren’t anything super exciting aside from the Dose of Colors eyeshadow palette. That made the box totally worth it, although I’m still disappointed in their brand choice of that sheet mask. The theme for this month’s box is Stellar, which definitely plays off of one particular product.
The first product in this month’s box is the Kypris Antioxidant Dew Quench & Glow Serum. It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper that includes 1.59 fl oz for $90. $90 y’all!! Can we just take a second to realize that you only pay $25 for the entire box and the very first product is already worth $90?! That’s just mind blowing to me!

To go along with its large price tag, it also has almost every claim imaginable. This is supposed to hydrate the skin with ingredients such as Phospholipid encapsulated Vitamins C & E, Superoxide Dismutase, Ferulic Acid, Sea Algae, and other herb-derived antioxidants. It also claims to use Waltheria Indica to soothe the appearance of redness and DPHP to create a more smooth appearance by enhancing the skin's tone and luminosity.
The next product is exciting because it’s something I’ve never seen Boxycharm do before, and that’s creating makeup brushes! This set came packaged in a luxurious soft touch bag and are two of the heaviest brushes I’ve ever held. The handles look super fancy and while there are no names on either of the brushes or any indication of where (or if) these brushes can be purchased separately, this set is said to be worth $35.
According to the provided notecard, they’re calling the larger of the two a multipurpose powder brush that is ideal for liquids, creams, powders, or mineral products. The smaller one is described as a foundation brush. They both have an oval shape and are made with synthetic bristles that are extremely soft and very densely packed. I’m super excited about these because they feel very high-quality and I can already think of so many ways to use each of them.
Now for the product that seemed to set the theme for the entire box. This is the Celestial Thunder palette ($35) from Dominique Cosmetics. It comes with eight eyeshadows ranging from glitter, shimmer, and matte finishes. The description of this palette made it seem like this was filled with bright colors that I was not going to like. While these are definitely more bold shades, I’m so happy to see that they’re a little more muted and wearable for everyday.
I’ve loved all Dominique Cosmetics products that I’ve tried so far and based on the swatches, I’m already impressed with their eyeshadow formula. It’s not the creamiest, softest, buttery texture ever, but they’re still intensely pigmented. The only one I’m a little concerned about is Eternal Light, which is the first gold pressed glitter shade. It barely shows up in a swatch, so I’m hoping it performs better on the eyes.
To go with the bold eyeshadow palette, they also included a pair of falsies. These are the Lilly Lashes in the style CEO, which retail for $25. The packaging is a little gaudy for my taste, but I know this is a widely loved lash brand so I’m looking forward to seeing the quality that these have to offer. They do have a black band and the style definitely looks like it will require something more dramatic than my everyday natural makeup.
Another Dose of Colors product is included in this month’s box! This is their Matte Liquid Lipstick ($18) and the shade I have is Flirty. Matte liquid lipsticks are my least favorite type of lip product, but this color is gorgeous. Based on its luxurious packaging and how much I loved last month’s eyeshadow palette, I’m keeping my hopes high with this one.
The last thing included in this month’s box is a sample pack of Pretty Vulgar’s Under Cover Concealer. They provided four different color options from this collection, which will not only come in handy for better shade matching but will also be great to use as cream highlighting and contouring. I’ve never tried any of Pretty Vulgar’s liquid face products, so I’m excited to see how this compares to some of my favorite drugstore concealers.
Although I’m not absolutely thrilled about the principle behind the price increase of the box, I was shocked to see that the value for all of these products (excluding the concealer sample) is $203!! I’ve never seen a box that had a value less than $100, but $200+ is almost unbelievable. I’m equally excited about almost all of the products in this month’s box and can’t wait to start testing them out!
