Benefits of Facial Steaming

Taking the time to pamper our skin is something we should all do, but something that often gets overlooked. It took me years to realize how important skincare is and I will forever regret the time I wasted trying to use makeup to cover up imperfections rather than putting in the effort to fix them. Makeup will never truly look perfectly flawless until the skin is happy. Our skin will be with us our entire lives, we should be taking care of it!

Facial steaming is one of my favorite at-home skincare treatments and there are so many benefits to it. My favorite, and the reason I started facial steaming, is how effective it is at opening the pores. I often do this to relieve sinus congestion, but it’s also great for loosening trapped dirt, oils, and acne causing bacteria.

The heat and steam will dilate the blood vessels, which helps to promote circulation and boost collagen and elastin production. The increase in collagen and elastin will lead to firmer, more youthful looking skin. Skincare products will also be able to absorb more easily once the pores are open. That allows the products to provide better, more noticeable results. Hydration is another big benefit of facial steaming, especially for those with dry skin.
There are many different options for steaming the face. You can use a bowl, a sink, a warm towel, or even a specialized facial steaming device. I keep it simple and just stand over a pot of low boiling water on the stove. Using a towel to trap the steam is very important because if the steam escapes and isn’t directed towards the face, all benefits are lost.

Usually 10-15 minutes is plenty of time for this treatment. Once the time is up, you can apply a face mask or just continue with your regular skincare as normal. This would also be a great time to use a pore extractor to completely clean all the dirt from the skin. I like to finish this process by rubbing an ice cube over all areas of the face. Not only is it super refreshing, but it will close the pores back up to prevent reclogging them after all that work.
Facial steaming is one of the most relaxing skincare treatments. It’s such a soothing experience and really makes you feel like you’re at the spa, but can easily be done in the comfort of your own home. There are so many wonderful benefits to it and I love that it requires nothing more than a few household items!
