Tree Hut Sugar Lips Review

Personal hygiene has always been very important to me. I love taking care of myself, my skin, my hair. That’s really what lead to me becoming so obsessed with beauty and makeup, which then led me to create this blog. One of my favorite experiences is exfoliating. Of all the exfoliators that I’ve tried, Tree Hut has always been the best. They all smell amazing, there’s just the right amount of exfoliants in the scrub, and they're super affordable. As soon as I heard about their new Sugar Lips lip scrub, I couldn’t wait to try it.

Normally I buy my Tree Hut products from Walmart, but I was only able to find this lip scrub at Ulta. I was lucky enough to pick it up during one of their BOGO sales and also stocked up on my favorite mocha and coffee bean body scrub. This lip scrub retails at $5.99 (for .34 oz) and if you’re purchasing it at Ulta, it is available for coupons!

The packaging feels very nice and looks glamorous sitting on the vanity. It is set in a pot, so you do have to dip your finger in to get the product out. I typically use my fingers for lip scrubs anyway, so that doesn’t bother me. I believe this only comes in one scent, sweet mint. I’m not always a fan of sweet mint fragranced products, but this one’s not bad at all. I actually find it pretty refreshing.
One of my favorite things about the Tree Hut brand is what they put in their products. They’re all made in the USA, and they use raw sugar and 100% natural shea butter to deeply moisturize, soften, and smooth dry cracked skin. Some of the other ingredients in this lip scrub are peppermint oil and mango puree, which also helps to moisturize the lips while adding a delicious fragrance. I love lip scrubs that include peppermint oil because the tingling sensation is so refreshing on freshly exfoliated skin.
When comparing this to the body scrubs, I actually do prefer those more than the lip scrub. This does do a good job at exfoliating the lips and while it did have what I would consider enough exfoliants, I also thought there was too much of a petroleum type of consistency. I ended up using more product than I normally would with my usual DIY lip scrub just to get enough sugar granules on my lips. The petroleum kept pushing them to the edges rather than giving me any kind of control to keep them in the center where I need the exfoliation.
The petroleum also made it a little difficult to remove the lip scrub. They claim for this to be a leave on scrub, meaning you can just lick it off. Honestly, the thought of that makes me cringe. I’d much rather just wash it off. However, because of its consistency it needs to be wiped with a towel first before rinsing with water. The petroleum won’t mix with water and instead creates a waxy layer on the lips.

I’d say my favorite part of this lip scrub was the tingling peppermint factor. Because I like the packaging so much, I think I’ll rinse it out when I’m done and use it to hold my own lip scrub that I make at home rather than repurchasing. Overall, it’s not horrible. They had a good thing going and this does do a good job at actually exfoliating the lips, I just think they need to use less petroleum.

A little update on last week’s Impress nails: I wore them a full seven days and they lasted extremely well. I will be doing a full review with more details and update pictures, but they were really impressive (pun intended) and something I’d recommend. This week I’m wearing another new polish that I’ve added to my collection.

This is OPI’s Mimosas for Mr. & Mrs. I picked it up at TJ Maxx (for half the price of normal retail!) hoping it would be similar to their Bubble Bath polish that I got as a gel manicure at a salon years ago. And it is! It’s one of those very light pink, almost barely there colors that I absolutely love. The picture shown below is with two coats, which is perfect for what I was looking for.
What’s on your nails this week?
