Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara Review

I love mascara, I don’t think that’s any secret. I’ve heard many good things about Clinique’s Bottom Lash mascara for quite a while, but I’ve always passed it up. I didn’t see the need for a mascara specifically made for the bottom lashes and all I could think about was it adding more time to my already very lengthy morning routine. But when I was purchasing my Acne Solution products one day, I needed to spend just a few more dollars in order to qualify for the free gift with purchase. So I found the cheapest thing I could at the Clinique counter and went home with this mascara.

Although it is extremely small, this is actually the full size product. It retails at $10.50 for .07 oz of product and is only offered in two shades - Black (the one I have) and Black/Brown. It’s not a very wet or dry formula, which is nice because that makes it easier to work with. As you can see in the picture below, the wand is also extremely small which is supposed to make it more user-friendly on the lower lashes. The point for having a separate mascara for the bottom lashes is because that’s where mascara usually flakes and smudges. This formula, although not waterproof, claims to help prevent that.

I’m bringing you step by step through the application of this product so you can see exactly how it works and compares to my bare lashes. I did already apply mascara to my top lashes since this product is mainly targeted for the bottom lashes. The first picture is without any mascara on the bottom at all.

This next picture is the result after just one coat of the mascara. I don’t have very thick or long lashes to begin with, so I’m always looking for products to help me in both of those departments.

I always apply a minimum of two coats of mascara and the picture below is the final result after both coats. There is an obvious difference from the picture of my bare lashes and I actually really do like the way this mascara makes my lashes look. I didn’t use it for this purpose today, but it’s also nice to apply on the inner corner of the upper lashes just to make sure each lash is defined around the eye.

I am impressed with the way this mascara performs and happy with how it makes my lashes look. The price isn’t too bad. It is much more expensive than drugstore mascaras when considering how much product you get, but it’s also pretty affordable when comparing it to other Clinique products. It claims to last a full 90 days. I’ve had mine much longer (despite the “rules" of when you should throw out makeup) but I also don’t use it every day. Just as expected, it takes me much longer to take this mascara out and apply it rather than just continuing with the mascara I’m already using. So I only reach for it when I know I have a couple extra minutes.

As far as if I would recommend this or not, I don’t have a certain answer. If you love beauty products and enjoy taking the extra steps, then absolutely give it a try. However, if you’re always in a hurry or trying to simplify your routine, then I think it’d be fine to skip. While I was happy with the final result of my lashes and thought it did a good job separating and built volume as well as length, I also think I can achieve the same thing with my other mascaras. Let me know if you have any questions about this product in the comments below. And I’d love to hear your experiences if you’ve tried this out before. Have a fabulous weekend!
