Ulta Bag Tutorial

In Wednesday’s Ulta Haul, I shared that one of my purchases included an Ulta gift bag. I’m not usually very impressed with those types of gifts with purchase, but this one includes so much! There was something included for almost every part of the face and I thought it’d be a fun idea to put them all together in a tutorial to see what I can come up with. Ulta brand products rarely disappoint me and the items included in the gift bag this time were no exception.

Let’s start with a step by step tutorial for the eyes. Of course the first thing we have to do is prime, and thankfully they included a sample size of their Nude Matte eyeshadow primer. The formula on this is a little watery, so I’m not sure that it’s perfect for my oily eyes. But it does conceal a tiny bit, which is nice. After that dried, I went into the eyeshadow palette and used Lace on a fluffy brush to lightly dust that over the top as a base.

I used the shade Vintage on a Morphe MB23 brush to add a slight definition in the crease. I placed that halfway through my crease and outer corner of the eye. This is a lighter brown shade than what we’ll be using next. You can definitely use just one or two shades for an entire eyelook, but I like to have that slight gradient among the colors.

I applied Charm to the outer half of my eyelid on a Sephora Professional blending brush. When working on this step, make sure to place the brush on the outer part of the eye first and blend inwards. That will keep the darker colors on the end to make the eye appear bigger. Once you have the amount of color laid down that you would like, make sure to go in with a clean, fluffier blending brush to erase any harsh lines.

I love that they included a beautiful blue in the palette, so I applied that shade (Seaside) to my lower lashline using a BH Cosmetics #105 Pencil brush from their Eye Essential Brush Set. Since I will be adding eyeliner and mascara to my lower lashline as well, I made sure to apply enough of the blue so that it will still be seen. I went about ¾ of the way in, but that’s up to you and how intense you’d like to make it.

Moving back up to the eyelid, I applied Delicate to the inner half of the lid with my finger first. That’s how I usually like to apply eyeshadows in this step, but found it particularly helpful with the formula of these two shimmers. I did blend it with a BH Cosmetics #103 Small Shader brush afterwards, but the initial application with my finger allowed for a faster, more pigmented result.

In order to brighten everything up a little bit, I applied Lace to the inner corner of my eye with a Sephora Professional smudge brush and also underneath my brow bone with a Morphe M208 brush. This shade could be a little lighter, in my opinion, but it worked fine for creating an entire look using just this palette alone.

For eyeliner, I used the double-ended pencil included in the bag and applied the shade Smoke halfway along both my upper and lower lashes. As far as traditional pencil eyeliners go, it was pretty smooth. But I would still prefer a more gel-like pencil because those glide on effortlessly. There’s not a deep enough color in the palette that would be able to be used as eyeliner, so I brought in a Milani eyeshadow in the shade Bella Charcoal. This color was perfect to pair with the pencil and you can barely see the shimmer when it’s applied to such a small area.

Of course, no eyelook of mine would be complete without a billion coats of mascara. I curled my lashes and then applied Ulta’s Amped Lashes mascara that was also included in the bag. I love that it has rubber bristles, but it was already a pretty dry formula on first application. I’d definitely use another mascara on top of it because I wasn’t happy with the finished result using this one alone, but again that’s just personal preference. I love lashes!

I did use other products in the bag to complete this look, such as the eyebrow gel. It is a little dark, but I can still work with it as long as I use a light hand. Aside from the color, I do really like the formula. The shade on my lips is the Matte lipstick in Petal. I love the color, but don’t necessarily think I would’ve chosen it to go with this look. I’d probably pair it with something more pink or peachy because of the blue. I also used the blush and highlight palette that’s included and I love the color of both of them. I tried to apply the blush with the brush provided, but that was just too small for what I’m used to using on my cheeks. It was great for applying the highlight, though.

Even though I probably wouldn’t pair all of these products together again, I still think the quality is great and will use them in other looks.
