Top 5 Under $5

One of the things I talk about the most on my blog is drugstore makeup. It’s always been my favorite and unless I receive something as a gift or in a beauty subscription box, there’s very few times in my life where I have actually purchased a high-end makeup item. I know a lot of people have different opinions, but I just don’t think it’s worth it. And today I’m here to prove it to you. I’ve always seen these 5 under $5 posts and videos going around and I can’t believe I haven’t done one before. This was actually a lot harder than I was expecting. Not because I couldn’t find anything, but because I couldn’t choose just five items. There might end up being a part 2, 3, and 4 to this in the future.

I didn’t try to stick with any specific categories for the face, I just grabbed whatever caught my attention first out of my collection. I’ve had all of these items for a while and they are constantly in rotation in my makeup routine. The first one I want to mention is the Elf HD Undereye Setting Powder. This comes in at $3 and is actually a product that I previously stayed away from. It used to have a lot of shimmer in it, but they reformulated and now it’s perfect. It fills in the undereye wrinkles, keeps concealer from creasing all day, and even has a slight brightening effect to it. I’ve repurchased this many times and it will always have a permanent spot in my collection.

The second product(s) I want to mention is Wet n Wild eyeshadows. It doesn’t matter which one because they’re all amazing. The singles are only 99 cents and the trios are usually around $3. I use these all the time because they are shadows that I know I can trust. The texture, along with the pigmentation, is amazing in all of their shades. Back in the day, they weren’t too good but now it’s almost impossible to beat them. Especially considering the price!

Jordana eyeliners have always been some of my favorites. I typically find them at Walgreens and they are always $3 or less, depending on what sales they have going on. They have a very good color selection to choose from, but one that has been my favorite for years is the shade Eggplant. It matches beautifully with almost any eye color and the quality is perfect. It’s not too creamy which makes it a bit more forgiving if you make a mistake, but it’s also not too dry. It’s very easy to get just the right amount of pigmentation.

I used to really dislike the Eos lip balms when I first got them. They were so hyped up when they were first released that I was expecting something spectacular. I still don’t like to use these as a lip balm when my lips are dry because I don’t think they really help in that department, but I use them all the time now under my lipsticks. If I’m wearing a product that I know will dry my lips out or is slightly uncomfortable, I put this on underneath and it helps significantly. These are around $3 at Target and Ulta, and so far my favorite scent has been the Summer Fruit. If they made it into a body spray, I’d be wearing it every day!

The last item I want to mention in this post is the Elf Lip Stains. We already know that Elf is super affordable and these lip stains are only $2! It is a little different at first because not only do they look like coloring markers, that’s how they are applied too. But they don’t take long to dry at all and the color lasts all day long. It feels like absolutely nothing on the lips, which is my favorite part and you can even layer other products over top to keep the lips moisturized. The shades Nude Nectar and Pink Petal are my favorites.

If you’ve been interested in finding more affordable makeup options, I hope you found this helpful. There’s definitely much more where this came from, so I will most likely be posting a few more in the future. These are products that I always reach for and some that I just can’t live without. All of these items are pretty easy to find and could work for almost anyone.

If you have questions about any of the items that I mentioned in this post, please feel free to leave them for me in the comments below. Have you tried any of these before? What are some of your favorite affordable makeup items?
