The Christmas Tag

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done any tag posts, and I kinda miss it. Since Christmas is only three days away, there wouldn’t be anything more appropriate than to talk about all of my favorite Christmas things and traditions. When researching what questions to include, I realized how many Christmas related tags are out there and I just kinda put all my favorites together. So grab a cup of hot cocoa and let’s get festive!

1.) Favorite Christmas movie?
Elf. Absolutely, 100%! How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a really close second, but I just love how much Elf keeps me laughing. Funny movies are my favorite and Will Ferrell did such a good job!

2.) Are you on the naughty or nice list?
I’ve always said that I was on the nice list, although my parents liked to disagree with me on that sometimes as a child. But this year, definitely the nice list. No doubt!

3.) Have you ever had a White Christmas?
I believe so, when I lived in Georgia. But I was too young at the time to remember anything. I don’t have any real memories of touching snow or having a White Christmas. Although we did get some snow in Northwest Florida this year, which was super exciting! It snowed for maybe three hours at night and then melted by the time the sun came up, but it was fun! It didn’t stick to the ground, just everything else. I was able to scrape some off of Jacob’s truck and make my first snowball!

4.) Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?
I try to do some shopping on Black Friday, but as selfish as this may sound, it’s usually all for me. When Black Friday rolls around, I still think in my head that Christmas is farther away than it actually is. I typically start Christmas shopping for my family once December hits and I figure out what gifts I need to shop for.

5.) When do you put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?
We were super late putting up our Christmas tree this year, but it usually goes up within the first week of December. As far as decorating, it’s usually a team effort. I’m not super picky about where ornaments go, as long as they’re all color coordinated. I always keep a glam gold theme, of course.

6.) Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
I’ve always had real Christmas trees my entire life, but found a fake one in our attic when we moved in. It was left by the family we bought the house from and is actually in pretty good condition. Real trees are my favorite just because of the simple fact that it’s real, it feels more traditional to me. There was a horrible selection this year and the prices just keep increasing, so I might settle for the fake one next year.
7.) Peek at gifts or be surprised?
My sister and I would always peek at gifts under the tree, but only to see whose name was on what and how many we had. I’ve never peeked inside of a gift or tried to find their hiding spots because I do still like to be surprised as to what the present actually is.

8.) Do you have an ugly Christmas sweater?
I wouldn’t technically consider it ugly, but I do have a sweater that makes me look like an elf. I’ve never been to any ugly Christmas sweater event and I’m sure if I tried I could probably make this sweater look a bit more silly, I’m just not into all of that. I like keeping it festive and cute.
9.) Does your family have a special holiday recipe?
Kinda yes and kinda no. We make the traditional dishes like ham, roast, green beans, sweet potatoes, etc. But I remember my Granny always making bourbon balls, which I don’t think are very common. I’ve tried making them myself with her recipe and they never turn out as good. She must be keeping something a secret!

10.) Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I wouldn’t say I’m a pro-present wrapper, but I’m definitely not horrible at it either. I can take wrapping paper and make it look nice with pretty, crisp lines. Just don’t expect any fancy bows or other decorations to go with it. My husband, on the other hand...ha!

11.) Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?
No, and I don’t plan to. I don’t really like running into Christmas carolers and definitely don’t want to be involved in it. I’d much rather just listen to an actual song done by a professional.

12.) What tops your tree?
We have a gold star at the top of our tree that lights up. Everything’s gotta be gold and shiny!
13.) Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I’ve tried making many New Years resolutions in the past and I’ve never stuck to them, so I tend to just make goals instead. It’s typically just to improve myself, take my vitamins, blah blah blah. The usual.

14.) Do you use advent calendars?
I’ve never had an actual advent calendar that’s all nice with the pretty little doors and fun little surprises inside. We’ve always just gotten the cheap chocolate ones at the grocery store. It started when we were really young and as I’m getting older, I’ve realized that they really need to improve the chocolate quality in those things!

15.) Do you have any Christmas traditions?
The only real tradition that we keep every year and have done for as long as I can remember is going to my Granny’s house on Christmas Eve.

16.) Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Yes. We always open presents with that side of my family after we eat dinner at my Granny’s house. I love doing that because Christmas morning always goes by so fast, so I like having that separate time to open presents because it makes it feel like Christmas lasts longer.

17.) What is your favorite Christmas song?
Carol of the Bells. It always gives me goosebumps! I like most versions of it, but prefer the Trans-Siberian Orchestra or Metallica version the most.

18.) Do you prefer white lights or colored lights?
White lights, absolutely! I liked colored lights as a child, but my taste is much more simple and classic now. I like the traditional, cozy, elegant feel that the white lights provide.
19.) Do you like to stay in your pajamas or dress up for Christmas?
I like it either way. I like to stay in my pajamas for the majority of the morning and just stay cozy enjoying the time with my family. But I also don’t mind dressing up later in the day for a nice dinner.

20.) Have you ever built a gingerbread house?
I have built a gingerbread house a few times. It’s not something we do every year and I’m definitely not very good at it, but it’s fun to play!

It’s official, I am ready for Christmas! These questions were so much fun to answer, I hope you enjoyed it. Leave me some of your answers in the comments section below. Do we share any of the same traditions? What’s your favorite thing about Christmas?
