Beauty Product Fails #6

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a beauty product fails post. Since my last one in November, I have done some serious decluttering and re-organizing of my makeup collection. At the risk of making me sound like a total hoarder (which I’m actually the opposite), I now have a separate dedicated area just for beauty products that disappoint in one way or another. Usually, I throw away all the clutter in my house but these are an exception. I have a responsibility here to share products with you that are great, and products that aren’t so great. Hopefully I can save you some money, or at least bring details of a product to your attention for future purchases.

I actually forgot this NYX Incredible Waterproof Concealer was even in my collection. Don’t judge, but I bought it years ago to wear to the beach. Even though I know wearing makeup to the beach is kinda ridiculous, sometimes you just have things that need to be concealed ya know?! Unfortunately this just didn’t do the job. It’s a very dry formula, so every time I tried to blend it in it just kinda just peeled up off of the skin. Then the times when I was able to blend it, it was extremely thick feeling. I probably used this two or three times before tossing it in the junk pile.
During one of Ulta’s Black Friday sales a few years ago, I bought a sample box that included a couple different Benefit Cosmetics products. I hadn’t tried much from that brand before and figured that’d be a great introduction to what they have to offer. One of the products included was a mini size of their Benetint Cheek & Lip Stain. I loved the color of it in the bottle and thought it would be perfect as a longwear product on my oily skin. Unfortunately, the consistency and pigmentation just didn’t do it for me. It’s almost like colored water, which you can kind of see to the left in the swatch picture below. Because it’s so watery, you have to work extremely fast or it’ll bleed everywhere. It’s very difficult to blend and I wish it would’ve provided more color.
I bought this Covergirl single eyeshadow in the shade Snow Blossom so many years ago, I can’t even remember. Covergirl eyeshadows aren’t talked about very much and for good reason. I have a few others that aren’t very good either, but this is definitely the worst out of the bunch. As you can see in the swatch picture below, it’s very powdery with almost zero color payoff. Every time I tried applying this, all I would end up with is no shadow on the lid and all kinds of glitter on my face.
I’ve never really been a fan of Clinique eyeshadows, but I would always get the sample bag when I used to purchase my acne skincare system. This particular product isn’t necessarily a fail as far as quality is concerned, but more so for the ridiculous packaging. The compact is wayyy too big for the amount of product they included on the inside! I know I technically didn’t pay for this since it was included as a gift with purchase, so I can’t complain about it really being a waste of money. It’s just annoying how much extra packaging there is.
Aside from the packaging, though, what is anyone supposed to do with these small pans of products?! The pink eyeshadow on the left is the only somewhat decent size. But the other two shadows and the blush on the bottom are just a joke. The pigmentation isn’t too bad on the shadows, as you can see in the swatch picture below, but the blush does leave much to be desired.
The last product I have to mention in this post is one that I got in my February Boxycharm. I recently touched on my issue with this in my last unboxing, but wanted to include more information on it here. This is the Pür Cosmetics X-Faux Lips Plumping Lips Exfoliator. This was actually a huge disappointment. I love the idea of it and how well it exfoliated the lips. However, the first problem is how fast the product wears down. The amount you see missing below was just after one use! The second, and biggest, problem I had with it was when I went to wash it off. There was a disgusting thick white oily residue left behind on my lips from what I’m assuming is one of the moisturizing ingredients in the product. It took forever to get it off of my lips and is the one thing that’s keeping me from using it again.
There are so many products on the beauty market right now that there is no reason you should have to settle for anything that doesn’t meet all of your expectations and needs. All of these products left me unsatisfied for one reason or another and I have many other options that can do the job better. Keep that in mind when you’re searching for the perfect products for you, it pays to stay patient...literally.

This is another one of those weeks were I picked a color out of my collection that I’m not normally drawn to and just went with it before I could change my mind. I’m not sure why, but this Wet n Wild polish in the shade Grape Minds Think Alike isn’t one that I reach for very often. Right now I think the color is beautiful, it was just the brush that drove me insane. But for 99 cents a bottle, I guess I can’t be expecting the world.
What’s on your nails this week?
