Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Review

I think matte liquid lipsticks, or really any liquid lipsticks for that matter, have to be the longest lasting beauty trend there is. With as drying as most of them tend to be, I thought for sure they would’ve faded out by now but the popular obsession over them still seems to be going strong. Between Boxycharms and other packages, I’ve tried so many different formulas and never thought I’d find one that I truly enjoyed wearing. So what was supposed to make me feel any differently about this line up from Pixi? The only way to find out is to try it!

Y’all know I never lie and sometimes I might keep it a little too real, so I know you’ll believe me when I say I gave these a serious eye roll when they arrived in the mail. Pixi sent them to me in the most adorable package ever, but I still couldn’t shake the fact that I had to put my lips through testing five new liquid lipsticks. I do have a really amazing hack to make liquid lipsticks more comfortable, but that can still only do so much when you continuously wear something so drying. Thankfully, Pixi is amazing and they didn’t have any deadlines or even require me to be posting this review, so I had more than enough time to comfortably try these products before stating my full opinion.

This line is actually called the MatteLast Liquid Lip. These retail for $14 each both at Target stores and on the Pixi website. They claim to have full color payoff in a single stroke for a matte veil finish, when applied with the Pixi Petal Applicator that is shown below. The applicator is more flat with an opening in the center and is much more flexible than most other lip applicators. Because it’s so flexible there is a little bit of a learning curve because you have to be extremely careful with it, but it’s nothing too difficult to work around.
What really had me excited is their color selection. So many companies are releasing all these crazy colors now and that is just really not my style. Call me old-fashioned, but I like my makeup to look natural and classy. There’s nothing natural and classy about purple or blue lips! #sorrynotsorry

The shades I have swatched below are Au Naturelle, Matte Beige, Pastel Petal, Really Rose, and Evening Rose. At first glance, they might look a little similar but I can definitely tell a difference when I put these on the lips and match them with a makeup look. The color that you get is a little bit different than the color you see in the tube, but they are all still extremely gorgeous. I love them all, even though I think I’ve worn Pastel Petal and Really Rose the most.
The formula is infused with rose hip seed oil to provide a hydrating, long wearing, and quick drying color to the lips. Although I do typically put a lightweight lip balm underneath these, I still think they are definitely the most comfortable liquid lipsticks I have ever tried. Even after giving these a fair testing, I found myself reaching for them just because I love the colors and the way they look. I don’t think matte lip products typically look very flattering, but something about these really do provide a more healthy appearance that lasts all day.

There’s something so wonderful about wearing just a simple pink nail polish every now and then. I love wearing many other colors, but sometimes I just love bringing it back to the basics and pinks are so classic. The shade I’m wearing this week is from the Sinful Colors Shine Collection and is called VIP. Other than having a bit of a thicker formula, I don’t really notice much of a difference from these “gel” shades than polishes from their regular line. Either way, they’re still super affordable and some of my favorites!
What’s on your nails this week?
