Dose of Colors Pretty Cool Palette Tutorial

It’s no secret that eyeshadow is my favorite type of makeup product, but matte eyeshadows are my real favorite! While I can appreciate the artistry behind extravagant makeup looks, I like to keep mine a little more natural. Whenever I do my makeup, my goal is always for my skin to look flawless and to enhance my favorite natural features on my face. Matte eyeshadows provide that more natural appearance to keep everything seemingly effortless.
The first step to any makeup look should always be priming the eyes. I’m using my favorite Milani eyeshadow primer because it’s completely matte, which is perfect for the matte shadows that will be applied over top. I love this primer because it’s super affordable and really extends the wear of eyeshadow on my oily eyes.
For this tutorial, I’m using the Dose of Colors Pretty Cool eyeshadow palette. This has five cool-toned matte browns that are insanely pigmented. The first shade I’m taking is Taupeless. I applied that with a dense buffing brush into my crease to emphasize my natural eye shape.
Next I’m taking the shade called Sign Off and packing that on the outer third of my eye, gently blending the excess into the crease. This is a much more pigmented shade than the previous color, so start with a light hand and add more as needed. Once I was happy with the amount of color applied, I went in with a separate, empty, loose-bristled blending brush to soften the edges.
To add even more dimension to the eyes, I dipped into the shade called Let’s Chill with the blending side of the brush provided in the palette and lightly buffed that along the edge of the previous shade in the crease. I also took a little bit of this color on the smaller detail side of the provided brush and placed that about halfway underneath my lower lashes. This will help tie everything together.
The one thing this palette is missing is a lighter shade. There’s nothing to really contrast the other colors, so I had to bring in a separate matte cream eyeshadow. I ended up using the one in my Physicians Formula x Casey Holmes palette, but any matte cream eyeshadow will work. I packed this on the inner ⅔ of my eye with my finger first and then blended it into the crease with a small shader brush.
For eyeliner, I used the Smashbox Always On Liquid Liner that I received in my October Boxycharm along with this palette. Because this is such an intense liner, I applied this as thin and as close to the lashes as I could in order to keep the makeup more natural looking. Then I went over that with the darkest shade in the palette called Smokeshow for a softer appearance.
The only thing left to do is to curl the lashes and apply mascara. I used three coats of my favorite Benefit Roller Lash mascara. When wearing such a natural eyeshadow look, I really like to enhance my lashes as much as possible and this mascara is perfect for that. It adds all the length and volume I’m looking for while also separating each individual lash to make them appear more full.

To finish up the rest of my face, I paired this look with a cool-toned blush and a slightly dusty rose lip. I used the Makeup Geek blush in the shade Puppy Love. Makeup Geek blushes are my absolute favorite! The lips are Profusion’s Matte Lip Cream in the shade Matte Cocoa. I don’t normally like matte lips, but applying a lightweight lip balm underneath helps to keep the lips moisturized and provide a soft satin finish.
Before this palette, I hadn’t really used many cool-toned eyeshadows in a very long time. Years ago it used to be all I ever used and now I’m remembering why I used to love them so much. I love the way it compliments the ashy tones in my hair and eyebrows. Stay tuned for a full review of this palette coming next week!
