Top 5 Winter Lips

Aside from eyeshadow, lip products have the widest variety in all of makeup. The face products typically stay the same, but lipstick and eyeshadow can help create a totally different look every day of the week. Earlier this year, I did a post covering my top five favorite lip products for Summer and I thought it’d be a great idea to do the same for Winter. Sometimes I stay in the same color families and other times I go in a completely different direction.

Going from lightest to darkest, my first favorite is Revlon’s Lip Butter in the shade Berry Smoothie. This has been a favorite of mine for years and I always get compliments on it. The formula is so smooth and comfortable to wear on the lips, and this particular shade is so flattering on many different skin tones. This is a shade I can throw on with any look and it will always match perfectly.
Lipgloss is probably my second favorite lip formula to wear right after lip butters. I like the lips to have a nice, healthy shine to them but I also don’t want a gloss that feels thick and uncomfortable. The Neutrogena Healthy Boost Lip Shine formula is perfect for that. The wand isn’t necessarily my favorite, but it still provides enough color to the lips without having to wear anything else underneath. Although they have many colors to choose from, the one called Velvet Wine is one of my favorite rich berry shades for Winter.
I’ve probably said it a million times and I’ll say it a million times over. I hate matte liquid lipsticks, buttt the Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip formula is the only exception. I love all the shades in this collection and have been wearing them a ton this year. I love them so much that I’m even including two in this post because I just couldn’t choose between them and they really do have a permanent home in my purse during the Winter months.

Evening Rose is such a unique shade and gets compliments almost every time I wear it. I do apply a light lip balm underneath, although I’ve never had a problem with these drying out my lips. I also love layering a little bit of glitter or gloss over top of this to add a little extra dimension.
My other favorite shade for Winter from the Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip line is the color Real Red. This has the same comfortable formula, intense pigmentation, and lasts forever on the lips. The color is definitely as the name implies - a true red. I don’t like red lips to have any orange, pink, or blue undertones and this one is perfect. You definitely need a mirror to apply this one, but once it dries it doesn’t go anywhere!
The last lip product I have to mention is actually a combo. So I’m kinda cheating here and including a bonus product, but I never wear either of these without the other. The NYX Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Perfect Red topped with the NYX Butter Gloss in Cherry Pie is the perfect red lip combo.

In the swatch picture below, you can see the combination of the two on the left side of the heart along with just the lipstick shown on the right. I also did a swatch of the gloss on the side to show how pigmented that is on its own too. And did I even mention that the gloss smells like a vanilla cupcake??
It’s more of a recent thing for me to change up my lip colors more often. I used to just stick with a few of my favorite shades that could carry me through any time of the year, but I’m realizing how much more fun it can be experimenting with new colors. Now I’ve become one of those people that will change a lip color five times before deciding on what I actually want to wear for the day. Thankfully these five are all no-brainers and ones that I always go back to. I seriously can’t even think of how many Berry Smoothie tubes I’ve purchased over the years, and I’m already almost due for another one soon!
