October Boxycharm Unboxing

Boxycharm made it!! And in good time this month, nothing compared to last month’s arrival. Yayyy!! I worked really hard trying not to see any spoilers, so everything that was included in this month’s box is a complete surprise. So exciting! If you haven’t checked out Boxycharm yet, you can create an account or find more information on their website. It’s only $21 a month for five full size beauty products delivered right to your door. I’m sure you know the drill by now, we’ll be quickly reviewing last month’s products before diving into the October box.

~Project Beauty Hairgurt Smoothing Hair Masque~ The scent of this is Strawberry Banana, which I mentioned is my absolute favorite smoothie flavor ever and I really thought I’d love that aspect of this product alone. However, it was much different than what I was expecting. It has a very imitation fruit smell and didn’t make my hair any softer. It had a thin consistency, which caused me to use a lot of product. I’d really just rather stick to my favorite Aussie Deep Conditioner instead.

~Butter London nail polish (Yummy Mummy)~ I had never tried a Butter London nail polish before, so I was very excited about it. While the color was beautiful on the nails, it didn’t stay on very long. I didn’t do anything different during the week than what I usually do and it had chipped significantly by the fifth day. For always comparing polishes to my favorite $2 Sinful Colors that last a full seven days, this definitely surprised me and I’m happy to know I can save my money.

~PĂœR Cosmetics Lip Lure Hydrating Lip Lacquer (Graceful)~ This felt very nice and lightweight on the lips, I can definitely feel its hydrating properties and liked that it didn’t feel sticky. It is a product that I would recommend, my only issue was in the shade I received. I’m not used to seeing myself with a brown-toned lip, but that has nothing to do with the formula of the product.

~Hikari Cosmetics Retractable Pencil Eyeliner (Raven)~ I’ve had a Hikari eyeliner before, but it was silver so it didn’t get much use. However, there’s always room for a black eyeliner and I even featured it in my last tutorial. It is so smooth and easy to apply. After placing a black eyeshadow powder directly on top, this stays in place all day and is one of the easiest, smoothest eyeliners I have ever worked with.

~StudioMakeup On-the-Go Eyeshadow Palette~ This might be my new favorite everyday palette! It has everything that I need. The quality, pigmentation, and texture of the shadows is amazing. I just featured it in my previous post and will be having a full, detailed review within the next week so stay tuned for that.

Last month had some great products. It was unfortunate that a few of them didn’t work out for me like I was hoping they would, but that’s what subscription boxes are for! And the eyeshadow palette made it completely worth every penny. This month, the theme of the box is Boxy Bazaar which seems to look like a circus according to the card. There are a total of five products included, so let’s get to it!

The first item in the box is the Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Crème which retails at $24 for 4 oz of product. It says it is made without sulfates, silicones, phthalates, and parabens. It claims to have a weightless formula that is infused with algae extract, panthenol, rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to leave hair smooth, shiny, and frizz-free.

I don’t usually blow dry my hair when it’s wet, but I do use other heat elements on it and have never used a creme heat protectant before. I’m excited to try this out, although I’m really hoping the smell doesn’t stick around. It smells like sunscreen! Not the good tropical smelling sunscreen either. I’m talking the nasty, chalky sunscreen. So fingers crossed it doesn’t linger!

Next is a Boxycharm collaboration brush set from Luxie called their Eye Blender Brush Pack. It came with three brushes and the reference card says this set is worth $36. I’ve received Luxie brushes in past Boxycharms and Ipsy bags and already know that they are great quality. The three brushes included are the 229 Tapered Blending brush, 205 Tapered Blending brush, and 237 Blending brush. I think they could have been a little more descriptive with the names, but that’s the least of my worries.

I love that the names are on the actual brushes and their packaging is always super adorable! The 229 and 205 feel almost the same, though the 229 has longer bristles and is a bit more stiff. The 237 brush would definitely only be used for blending small areas because as you can see in the close-up picture below, it’s very small compared to other blending brushes. I’m happy to add these to my collection because I always say that blending brushes are something you can never have too much of.

I’ve never heard of the brand IBY Beauty, but one of their Threes Company Trio Eyeshadow palettes was included in this month’s box. As mentioned in the name, there are three eyeshadows included in the palette along with a double-ended eyeshadow sponge. It has a very sturdy compact, so it would be great for travel and it does have a nice sized mirror on the inside as well.

This palette retails for $19 and claims to have the perfect trio of “must have shades” to highlight, bronze, and define your eyes. It does look like they included a good amount of eyeshadow in each pan and from the initial swatch, they seem very smooth and pigmented. It is a beautiful trio of eyeshadows and I would definitely use all three of these colors together, but I would also need to bring in a matte cream to complete the look.

The fourth item is probably my least favorite product I have received in a subscription box. This is Temptu’s Shimmer Bronzer that retails at $29.50 for 1 fl oz. of product. I’m not the biggest fan of liquid bronzers or highlights and I’m really not someone who likes my bronzers to have a shimmer finish. I’ve tried a Temptu highlighter before and disliked it so much, I just passed it on because I couldn’t stand to keep it in my collection. The same will probably happen with this product.

Aside from the shimmer, it also has a very wet consistency almost like water so I find it difficult to work with anyway. If you have incredibly dry skin, then this might be great for you. But for my oily self, I want to stay as far away from it as possible. In the swatch picture below, you’ll notice where I tried to blend it out a little bit on the left and kept it built up on the right so you can see it’s full color.

The last item in the box is an Ultra Matte Lip Paint from Starlooks and I have mine in the shade Piquant ($19). I’ve tried a few Starlooks products in the past and think they have good quality items, so I’m excited to see the brand included in another box. While I’m not big on matte lips, that’s very easily fixable and I think the color on this is beautiful. The packaging does look a little small, but this is a full size product.

When I swatched it, I was happy to notice that it has a very lightweight consistency and actually reminded me a lot of my City Color Lip Stain. It took a little bit of time to dry down, but eventually it did turn completely matte. While it was drying, it felt very tacky which has me a little worried and hopefully I’ll be able to find a way around that.

Aside from the Temptu bronzer, I’m really happy about all of the products in this month’s box. I appreciate that they included well loved brands such as Luxie, Briogeo, and Starlooks. I’m also happy to be introduced to IBY Beauty and see what kind of quality items they offer. The total of this month’s box is $127.50, which is $106.50 more than what you pay! If you haven’t signed up for Boxycharm yet, I definitely recommend it!! In case you missed my previous unboxings and would like to see more, you can find them all here.

If you have any questions about Boxycharm or the products included, please leave them for me in the comments below. Also, I’d love to hear what product you’re most excited about from the October box and what you loved the most from last month!
