How To Make Eyeliner Last Longer

Eyeliner has always been a tricky thing for me to deal with. Most people usually have a problem with getting their lines and wings to be even, but my struggle came in with trying to get it to last all day. With my extremely oily eyelids, whatever eyeliner I put on would be completely gone or smudged like a black eye within just a few hours. I’m sure the Florida humidity also didn’t help much with that either. But I’ve finally found a trick that ensures my eyeliner will stay all day. If you’ve followed my tutorials before, then you might have an idea of what I’m talking about and I’m gonna explain all the details behind how it works.

I used to just use pencil eyeliner when I was done with my eyeshadow, add some mascara and be done. That was a huge mistake. Pencil eyeliner is the easiest to smudge and even when I finally realized that gel and liquid eyeliners stay on oily eyes longer, I still left it alone after applying it. Gel and liquid eyeliners may last longer, but they will still fade or smudge after a while. The trick is to apply an eyeshadow on top of wherever you put the eyeliner, no matter what form you’re using.

All you have to do is take an eyeshadow that matches the color of eyeliner that you chose and apply it directly on top with an angled eyeliner brush. It doesn’t matter what eyeshadow you use or the quality of it. What matters is that you’re setting the pencil, gel, or liquid that you applied under it. This works in the same way face powder does when you set your foundation by keeping things in place all day. It provides a softer appearance and intensifies the color. Powder eyeshadow can also get closer to the lash line than any other form of eyeliner can and will fill in those tiny gaps between the lashes.

This trick has helped me so much and I’m so glad I’ve found this method of applying my eyeliner. It does take a few extra seconds in my routine, but I don’t mind that if it means my eyeliner will stay in place all day. This can also be applied with a smudge brush to help blend out the eyeliner for a more smokey look. If you have any other questions, please feel free to leave them for me in the comments! I’d also love to hear what your favorite makeup tips are!

I think I might be getting a little ahead of myself this week. Darker silvers usually remind me of the new year, but this is what caught my eye and I think it can pass during the Christmas season too. It’s a Nicole by OPI polish and the color is called A Phil’s Paradise. I did need a thick two coats to make it show up as dark as it did. The first coat was very sheer, but built up nicely with the second coat. These polishes are usually very nice and I’m not worried about it chipping off throughout the week.
