Easy Purple Eyes

Brown eyeshadow is by far my most commonly worn eyeshadow shade. I think it’s safe to say that’s just the most common eyeshadow shade all across the board among most people. It’s so easy to work with and looks great on everyone. But every now and then it’s fun to switch it up. If I ever wear something other than brown, it’s usually purple. I love the way it looks with my eyes and it's something that still makes me feel comfortable. I’ve already posted a Purple Smokey Eye tutorial and although I still love a deep smokey eye, that’s not always the best for everyday wear. In this post, I’m showing you how to incorporate purple eyeshadows into an easy look that’s perfect for day to day life without being too much. Once you get it down, it can easily be done in less than five minutes.

I’m still absolutely loving the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chromes and for working with the purples, the shade Gilded Rose is perfect. This will hold onto the eyeshadows so they don’t go anywhere all day long and although I’ve mentioned before that you can layer other shades on top of it without too much pink showing through, it also emphasizes pink shadows just enough if that’s what you choose to pair it with.

For this tutorial, I will be using only the L’oreal La Palette Nude 2 that you can find at almost any drugstore. It’s under $20 and is great quality! To create some definition in the crease, I’m taking the third shade (unfortunately, none of them are named) on a Morphe MB23 brush and applying that carelessly all over in my crease and outer corner. This is such a light matte shade that it will provide the perfect background color for almost every shade in this palette.

I’m taking the fifth and seventh shades mixed together on a Sephora Professional blending brush focusing most of the pigment on the outer corner / outer half of my eye, then blending whatever’s left on the brush up into my crease about halfway. I couldn’t decide between these two shades and I like the way they compliment each other. It provides a little bit of brown, a little pink, a little mauve, some taupe, a few hints of lilac. Seriously, this palette’s great!

You could just take an empty fluffier blending brush to blend everything out, which is what I usually do. But this time, I’m gently dipping my brush into the eighth shade and blending that directly on top of the colors we just put down. Adding a light matte shade like this will help to blend things easier and also lighten things up if you happened to go a little heavy handed with the darker colors.

Depending on how light you’re trying to make it, you could totally skip this step. But to add some color to the lower lashline and tie everything in together, I’m combining the second and third shade on a BH Cosmetics #105 Pencil brush from their Eye Essentials Brush Set. If you wanted it even more intense, or whatever fits your eye shape, you could also go a little darker. I like it somewhere in between.

The very first shimmery shade in the palette is what I’m putting on the inner half of my eye. I applied it with my finger first and then tried to blend it out with the brush that’s included. It’s not as bright as I would typically like it to be, but it’s still really pretty. The brush isn’t my favorite for this, though. It is a nice brush and better than what’s typically included in an eyeshadow palette, but it was just a little small to work with.

To get the inner corner as bright as I possibly can, I’m mixing the first shade and the eighth shade together and applying it with the sponge on the other end of the included brush. Again, the sponge got the job done but it wasn’t my favorite. It was a little too big for that area of my eye, although it packed the color on very easily. Using brushes that are included in the palette and not reaching for other ones, if at all possible, will also help to make application go faster.

I applied Jordana’s retractable eyeliner in the shade Eggplant halfway along both my upper and lower lashline. That is one of my favorite eyeliners ever, regardless of what eyeshadow combo I’m pairing it with. And to make sure that doesn’t go anywhere throughout the day, I applied the last matte dark purple shade in the palette directly on top of the pencil with an Ecotools angled eyeliner brush. Curl the lashes, add about a billion and one coats of mascara and we should be done. I love doing my mascara routine and watching everything all come together. That’s definitely one of my favorite parts about makeup. Mascara is like the icing on the cake, it just makes everything look so much better.

This has got to be one of my favorite purple eyeshadow looks that I have ever done. Not only do I love the way it looks, I also love how easy and fast it is. Aside from the other variations that I mentioned throughout the post, you could also skip the eyeliner to make it even more simple. Or add some dark colors for a more nighttime look. Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong with this palette. L’oreal definitely impressed!

This week I’m wearing a color that I haven’t worn in a really long time. The polish is called Tidal Wave by Sinful Colors. I’m sure we all know by now how much I love the Sinful Colors brand since I include them in almost all of my Mani Mondays, but this formula was a little more difficult to work with than most of the others. It was a little streaky during application. I was able to build it up with two coats, but it was rather annoying to work with.
