Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Review

The Too Faced Better than Sex mascara has been a much loved mascara by so many people ever since it first hit the market. I’ve always been curious about it, but held off on trying it just because I was already satisfied enough with my more affordable drugstore mascaras. Thanks to Boxycharm, I finally got the opportunity to try it and see what the hype is really all about!

This mascara is pretty easy to find online or in stores like Ulta or Sephora. It retails for $24, which is about the same as most other high-end mascaras. I have tried the supposed dupe for this, the L’oreal Lash Paradise mascara. They’re comparable because the packaging is almost identical, the wands look very similar, and many people think the formulas are also the same.

I could immediately tell a difference in this packaging compared to the L’oreal. This one has a lot more weight to it, whereas the L’oreal is packaged in a very lightweight tube. Other than the packaging, I’m not seeing as many similarities between the two as everyone else. The wand on the Too Faced mascara has a more dramatic curve and I actually don’t think the formulas are that comparable.
The brand claims that this mascara will thicken, lengthen, and curl the lashes in just one coat to create the most luscious, dramatic, volumized lashes possible. Its film-forming polymers help to lock the curl in place, while the acacia senegal tree extract sets the volume and its unique peptides work to condition the lashes.

In the application photos shown below, the two photos on the left are before and after I curled my lashes. The three photos on the right are coats 1-3 of mascara. I think it looks pretty good after three coats, but it can get clumpy if you’re not careful. It’s not that the formula is too thick, it’s that the curve in the wand is too dramatic to evenly coat each lash with every swipe.
Here’s a better before and after photo to show the true comparison of what this mascara can really do. I’m not surprised by how much volume and length this gives because of how widely loved it is, but I am surprised by how different it is to the Lash Paradise. This does give a good amount of volume and length after two coats, I just like to add a third coat to make it a little more intense.
Overall, this is a really nice mascara. I don’t think it’s as comparable to the Lash Paradise as everyone made it out to seem. However, I definitely understand all the hype behind it now. I probably won’t go out and repurchase it because I’m such a drugstore makeup kind of girl, but it is one of the few high-end mascaras that I’ve been really impressed with.

This week I’m wearing another new color and it’s perfect for Spring, which officially begins in two days! I recently received the Spring Las Vegas Collection from EMMA Beauty and this particular shade is called Spaaaa!. It’s a beautiful baby blue that looks just like clear Spring skies. It was a little light in opacity and streaky during application, but it actually turned out really pretty after two thick coats.
What’s on your nails this week?
