Unexpected Makeup Finds #2

It’s just human nature to judge things immediately. We can’t help it, we judge everything. Whether it be about food, a product, a person, a show, it doesn’t matter. It all gets judged. Normally I’m not someone who likes to be proven wrong, but when it comes to makeup and it’s being proven wrong for the better I don’t mind that at all. That’s exactly what this Unexpected Makeup Finds series is all about -- sharing some of the best beauty products that I originally underestimated.

First let’s talk about foundation because that’s the base of all makeup. I’m really, really picky when it comes to foundation. I don’t like to feel a lot of product on the skin, but I want about medium coverage, and I want it to look 100% completely natural. This Elf Acne Fighting Foundation hits all of those requirements, plus more. It provides medium-high coverage, it looks like real skin, it stays looking perfect all day long, it’s great for oily skin, and it’s super affordable.

After this carried me through my entire wedding day and night, it immediately became my all-time favorite foundation. I don’t have to blot my face as much when I wear this and the finish of it leaves me feeling so confident. I wish there were more than just six shades, but Porcelain is the perfect match for my currently pale Winter skin and Buff is what I use when I’ve self tanned.
Neutrogena is never a brand that caught my attention. Their packaging just looks so simple and I always thought they were a more pricey option. Now that drugstore brands keep increasing their prices, Neutrogena is about average and I’m finally starting to appreciate their more clean ingredients.

It’s very rare that I can ever find powder face products that don’t include talc, which is why I love Makeup Geek so much. I never knew Neutrogena also has a few talc free options like this Healthy Skins bronzer. The shade I have is Sunkissed and although it’s not super intense, it is easily buildable and the slight orange tones that it includes makes it look like you literally just spent the day at the beach.
Although my initial experience with Profusion Cosmetics wasn’t the best and they have very much improved their quality since then, I still can’t help but use caution when trying something new from their line. I loved this Bare Eyes eyeshadow palette the second I opened it and saw all of the neutral mattes, but I really fell in love after swatching it.

The formula is so smooth and the eyeshadows are incredibly pigmented, which is rare to see in lighter matte shades. This is perfect for every day and, as you might have seen in my tutorial, it does have more versatility than you might think.
Pixi Beauty products have almost always impressed me, but I was so confused when I saw this Lip Icing from the Chloe Morello collection. I love lipgloss, I just didn’t understand the purpose behind a clear gloss with gold glitter. Now, I get it. It is absolutely stunning when layered over almost any other color. It’s so comfortable because it’s not sticky at all and you can’t feel any of the glitter. It’s perfect!!
The last unexpected find I have to share, for now, is Essence nail polish. This was probably the first product I had tried from the Essence brand and was immediately impressed. I didn’t really know what to expect, but there’s no way I would’ve known how amazing these polishes are. They’re super affordable and a lot of them are opaque enough to even be able to get away with just one coat. The brush is my favorite thing about these polishes. It’s just the right size with the most natural curve to fit the nail perfectly.
Products like these are why I am always willing to try beauty products, no matter what my initial opinion might be. It’s a beautiful thing when products work the way they should, but it’s even better when you’re not expecting it. It almost makes me love them more than if I were to have expected to like them from the beginning. The one, and probably only, time I’ll ever appreciate being proven wrong!

This week’s nail polish selection was actually inspired by Jessica from JAMBeauty89 on Youtube. She was wearing a shade very similar to this in some of her recent videos and it made me want to wear it too. This particular polish I’m wearing is Ulta’s Bam-Blue-Zled. I don’t know that they make this color any more, but they do have pretty good quality polishes!
What’s on your nails this week?
