Easy Spring Makeup
Less makeup has really been the name of the game for me lately. There’s just something so beautiful about an effortless makeup look. It’s actually a lot more complicated than it might sound because if that’s not something you’re used to, it’s a whole new world trying to find the absolute best products for your skin. With less makeup on the face, it’s easier to detect imperfections or patchy concealer. Everything has to be perfect!
Once I’ve figured out the best base face products for my skin like primer, foundation, and concealer I like to reach for a multipurpose palette to finish everything else. Since we’re going with less makeup on the face, might as well reach for less products! The Cover FX Perfector face palette (in light-medium) is a great option!
I start by priming my eyes with the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome in the shade Beige Luster. This is a great primer for oily eyes and will do a beautiful job at enhancing the shimmery lid shades I’ll be applying over top of it.
Once the primer is dry, I’m taking the contour shade in the palette (Silhouette) and placing that in my crease and outer corner of the eye. I’d recommend using dense brushes in this look to really pack the color on as much as possible. Although these are nicely pigmented for the face, they take some work to build up on the eyes.
Then I’m taking the blush shade (Sublime) and blending that right into my crease for more dimension and a little bit of color. This one is easier to notice on the eyes than Silhouette, but is still soft enough to give you peace of mind during application knowing that it can’t really be overdone.
I chose the bronze highlighter (Starlight) for the rest of the eyelid space. I prefer to apply shimmer shades like this with my finger first to get the most intense pigmentation possible, and then blend it out with a small shader brush into the crease. When packing the color on with my finger, I also made sure to get a little bit on the inner part of the lower lashline to tie everything together.
To make the eyes appear even more awake, I applied the brightener shade (Moonbeam) right to the inner corner. This shade will contrast with the lid color just enough and reflect the light to make the whites of the eyes appear brighter.
I skipped eyeliner for this look to keep things even more fresh and moved straight on to mascara. Since the lashes are a big part of this look, I brought in my favorite mascara -- Benefit’s Roller Lash. This makes my lashes look better than any other mascara and never falls or flakes off throughout the day.
Here’s a more condensed guide recapping every step for easy reference:
I also use this palette to finish up the face, as it’s intended. I applied the bronzer around my hairline, along the sides of the forehead, the temples, the hollows of the cheeks, the sides of the nose, and the jawline to add some dimension. Then I applied the blush with the Moda powder brush included in last month’s Boxycharm. When doing a natural look like this I also lightly tap whatever product is left on the blush brush around my forehead, nose, and chin to give a more sun-kissed appearance.
I used the Moda soft glow highlighting brush to apply the pink highighter (Divine) to the tops of my cheekbones. Being such an oily girl, I normally try to stay away from highlighting my face. But this color is so beautiful paired with the blush in this palette and this brush applies just the right amount of product for a soft, natural glow.
This looks could be paired with almost any lip color, but for this tutorial I chose to pair it with the Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Monaco that was also included in the March Boxycharm. I love the way this look came together! It’s definitely one that I’ll be wearing all the time for Spring and Summer!
